An international banking institution is seeking an AVP-level Portfolio Manager to manage a portfolio of leveraged corporate borrowers and selected sponsor-backed transactions across Europe.

The role offers a unique blend of credit analysis, portfolio management, transaction support and commercial exposure across leveraged finance and broader banking products

Client Details

Our client is a leading international bank with a well-established leveraged finance platform supporting large corporate and sponsor-backed clients across Europe.

Description

The role is a unique hybrid role, combining traditional leveraged finance portfolio management with broader corporate banking exposure.

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing a portfolio of large-cap leveraged credits while also overseeing ancillary facilities including derivatives, trade finance, working capital and other banking products.

Whilst there is some exposure to traditional sponsor-backed leveraged finance transactions, this is not a pure execution role.

It would suit someone who enjoys credit analysis, portfolio management, stakeholder engagement and managing complex banking relationships across multiple products.

You will be sitting within a Leveraged Finance team, combining traditional credit and risk management responsibilities with transaction support and stakeholder engagement.

Key responsibilities include

  • Managing a portfolio of leveraged corporate borrowers and selected sponsor-backed leveraged finance exposures.
  • Performing ongoing credit analysis, financial statement review and cash flow assessment.
  • Preparing credit papers, portfolio reviews and internal recommendations.
  • Monitoring borrower performance and identifying emerging risks and opportunities.
  • Supporting refinancings, amendments, waivers and incremental financing opportunities.
  • Working alongside Origination and Coverage teams on capital deployment and portfolio growth initiatives.
  • Managing exposures across a range of banking products including leveraged loans, revolving credit facilities, trade finance, letters of credit, derivatives, deposits and working capital facilities.
  • Coordinating with Product, Operations, Credit and other internal stakeholders to ensure smooth portfolio management and transaction execution.
  • Supporting the maintenance of relationships with borrowers, sponsors and key internal stakeholders.

Unlike many leveraged finance opportunities, this role offers exposure to both leveraged transaction activity and the ongoing management of broader banking relationships, creating a well-rounded platform for long-term career development.

Profile

We are interested in speaking with candidates from a range of banking and credit backgrounds, including:

  • Leveraged Finance Portfolio Management.
  • Corporate Banking Portfolio Management.
  • Credit Structuring.
  • First Line Credit.
  • Acquisition Finance.
  • Hybrid Corporate Banking and Leveraged Finance teams.

Successful candidates are likely to demonstrate

  • Strong credit analysis and risk assessment skills.
  • Experience analysing corporate financial statements and cash flows.
  • Financial modelling capabilities.
  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication abilities.
  • The ability to manage multiple priorities across a complex portfolio environment.
  • A proactive, solutions-oriented approach.
  • An interest in developing broader leveraged finance and commercial banking expertise.

The team places significant value on attitude, accountability, organisation and the ability to navigate multiple stakeholders effectively, alongside technical capability.

  • Job Offer
  • Exposure to a high-profile European leveraged finance portfolio.
  • A mix of corporate leveraged finance and sponsor-backed transactions.
  • Meaningful involvement in transaction activity and portfolio growth initiatives.
  • Broad exposure across leveraged loans, trade finance, derivatives, deposits and working capital products.
  • Close interaction with Origination, Coverage, Credit and Product teams.
  • Strong learning and development opportunities.

This opportunity would particularly suit strong corporate banking or credit professionals looking to broaden their leveraged finance exposure, as well as leveraged finance professionals seeking a more diverse and commercially focused portfolio management role.
