NUGENT carry out large, complex MEP engineering project works in GB, NI and ROI with a workforce of 120 direct employees and 300 sub-contractors. The HSEQ Officer will support the development of a strategy to shape the HSEQ and Continuous Improvement functions for the company. This role will deliver the HSEQ strategy and drive a culture of continuous improvement. Responsibilities include ensuring legislative compliance together with adherence to our IMS systems to ISO standards 18001, 14001 and 9001.
This is a fantastic opportunity for an HSEQ professional to work in a collaborative environment influencing and leading on all aspects of health and safety, environmental and quality performance. The position requires first-class organisational, communication and leadership skills along with a proven ability to develop solutions that push innovative boundaries.
The successful candidate will work closely with the Managing Director and Business Unit Operations Directors to implement strategies and develop long-term plans that usher in new levels of HSEQ standard at NUGENT. You will be a motivated and reliable individual who brings enthusiasm and positivity to the team and should enjoy working in a fast-paced environment. This role can be based either in our Pomeroy or Belfast Office, depending on experience and candidate's location. The role also requires travel to our sites within NI and GB.
Key Responsibilities and Duties:
- Develop a strong working relationship with all levels of employees and promote a culture of engagement, understanding and compliance for all HSEQ policies and procedures.
- Monitor, review, improve and amend the Integrated Management System to ensure continual improvement and compliance.
- Complete compliant management system audits and inspections and manage a programme of corrective/preventative actions for continuous improvement.
- Manage the completion of ISO9001 / ISO14001 / ISO45001 internal audits and provide effective solutions to support compliance regarding all external audits.
- Ensure the preparation of the Contract Health and Safety Plans.
- Perform site visits to ensure all necessary safety equipment/documentation is available.
- Perform or arrange accident reporting, recording and investigation as required.
- Maintain records, inspections and calibration of lifting appliances, PPE, gas monitoring equipment, safety audits and accidents/incidents.
- Perform assessment of special equipment requirements as required.
- Liaison with company solicitors regarding EL and PI claims and undertaking investigations.
- Support the implementation, design, and development of risk management processes, including Risk Assessments, COSHH Assessment and Fire Risk Assessment.
- Provide effective solutions for all company health and safety and compliance inductions.
- Provide effective internal training and coaching to operational teams in specific subject matters.
- Attend and provide monthly operational reports to operational meetings and submit quarterly performance and compliance reports to board meetings.
- Advise Managing Director and BU directors on the implications of current, new and pending health, safety, environmental and quality statute, approved codes of practice, guidance etc.
Skills and Qualifications:
- 3 plus years experience in operational management or safety, health, and environment leadership.
- NEBOSH general certification.
- Previous experience of producing internal audits to comply with ISO45001.
- Accuracy, diligence, and a champion of embracing and driving effective compliance solutions.
- Excellent solutions, planning and organisational skills.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Degree level relevant qualification.
- IOSH membership.
