About the Role
A leading organisation undergoing an exciting digital transformation programme is looking to appoint a Senior Security Engineer to join its Cyber Security function. This is a key role providing cyber security expertise across strategic and non-strategic change initiatives, helping to protect critical systems, data, and customers from evolving cyber security threats. Working closely with delivery teams, technology functions, and business stakeholders, you will play a central role in embedding security best practices across projects, supporting modernisation initiatives, and ensuring secure delivery of new and existing technology services. This opportunity is ideal for a security professional with a strong engineering background who enjoys working across multiple areas of cyber security, delivering change, and helping shape secure technology environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the implementation, configuration, and commissioning of security infrastructure, tooling, and controls across cyber-led initiatives.
- Provide subject matter expertise across key cyber security domains including: Security Architecture, Application Security, Cloud Security, Cryptography.
- Support delivery teams by embedding security controls and assurance throughout projects.
- Work with internal teams, suppliers, and external partners to ensure security requirements are delivered effectively.
- Coordinate third-party security resources and ensure projects are appropriately supported.
- Plan and manage penetration testing activities, oversee remediation work, and communicate risks ahead of go-live.
- Contribute to the development of security architecture, secure development practices, and application security standards.
- Support Cyber Operations teams during major incidents, disaster recovery, and business continuity scenarios.
- Work closely with development teams to ensure applications are delivered following security best practice.
- Support the wider Cyber Security leadership team with strategic security initiatives.
Skills & Experience Required
- Proven experience working as a Senior Security Engineer or similar role within a medium or large organisation.
- Strong cyber security engineering background, ideally within a regulated environment such as Financial Services, Insurance, or another highly governed industry.
- Experience delivering both large-scale and smaller security transformation projects.
- Strong practical knowledge of traditional security technologies alongside modern security tooling.
- Experience across multiple security domains including infrastructure, application, cloud, and risk management.
- Relevant security certifications such as CISSP, CISM, CSSP, or equivalent.
- Hands-on experience with: SAST (Static Application Security Testing), DAST (Dynamic Application Security Testing), SCA (Software Composition Analysis).
- Experience integrating security tooling into development pipelines and SDLC processes.
- Strong experience consulting on projects, defining security requirements, and reducing operational risk.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
