For one of our clients we are looking for a SQL DBA (monitoring experience on top is highly appreciated).

Start: ASAP

Duration: 12 months and then perm

Location: Den Bosch

Purpose

Accountable for the SQL Database platform’s performance, security, compliance, and lifecycle management. Leads roadmap execution, vendor governance, and platform standards. The Datacenter Services team operates as a collaborative governance group, ensuring continuity and resilience across all platforms. Each Platform Owner works closely with peers to provide backup for decision-making during absences and to maintain consistent standards. While each role focuses on a primary platform, proven experience with other platforms (e.g., VMware, Backup, Storage, Monitoring, Azure) is considered a strong advantage.

Responsibilities

  • Define and maintain the platform roadmap (modernization, HA/DR, automation, cloud adoption).
  • Ensure service availability, performance, security, and compliance with regulations.
  • Provide deep technical expertise for Microsoft SQL Servers.
  • Advise on database design, optimization, and performance tuning.
  • Support architecture reviews, migrations, and solution design.
  • Manage financial aspects, including licensing, budgeting, and cost optimization.
  • Govern MSPs delivering operational DBA services; ensure SLA compliance and manage escalations.
  • Monitor and report on platform costs; provide forecasts and optimization recommendations.
  • Define and enforce database standards, security baselines, and tagging compliance.
  • Maintain accurate CMDB and LeanIX mappings.
  • Collaborate and align with other platform owners to ensure continuity of governance and decision-making during absences.
  • Report KPIs, risks, and improvement plans to management.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience in governing and owning SQL Database platforms (Microsoft SQL Server, Azure SQL).
  • Strong understanding of database architecture, HA/DR strategies, and security best practices.
  • Experience managing MSPs and vendor contracts.
  • Experience with monitoring systems.
  • Financial acumen for cost control and forecasting.
  • ITIL v4 knowledge and experience with ITSM tools.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
