Location: Based at MiAlgae’s Production site in Grangemouth, Falkirk.

Salary: £36,000 - £42,000 depending on experience.

Working pattern: Initially back shift (typically 14:00 – 21:30), moving to a rotating day and back shift pattern after an initial period.

Role Description: This is a full-time Mechanical Maintenance Technician role based at MiAlgae's production site in Grangemouth, Falkirk, working within the Maintenance Team and reporting directly to the Maintenance Team Leader. The Mechanical Maintenance Technician will play a key role in maintaining, repairing and improving the mechanical equipment that keeps MiAlgae's production facility operating safely and efficiently. Working closely with Engineering, Production, Technical Development and R&D teams, you will support equipment reliability, minimise downtime and contribute to the continued scale-up of MiAlgae's innovative production processes. You will carry out planned preventative maintenance, reactive repairs and fault finding on a wide range of industrial process equipment including pumps, centrifuges, agitators, compressors, valves, pipework systems and associated plant machinery. The role also includes inspecting, overhauling and refurbishing rotating equipment to maximise operational performance and equipment life.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Diagnosing mechanical failures, identifying root causes and implementing effective repairs.
  • Recording maintenance activities through the CMMS system.
  • Supporting preventative maintenance strategies.
  • Participating in plant improvement projects, equipment upgrades and new machinery installations.
  • Liaising with specialist contractors and suppliers when required.
  • Contributing to the development of maintenance schedules and best-practice maintenance procedures.

All activities are undertaken in accordance with site safety procedures and maintenance standards.

Qualifications:

  • Recognised apprenticeship, HNC/HND in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Proven experience maintaining and repairing industrial mechanical equipment within manufacturing, processing, utilities or production environments.
  • Strong mechanical maintenance background working on pumps, gearboxes, bearings, motors, agitators, centrifuges, conveyors or similar rotating equipment.
  • Demonstrable fault-finding, breakdown repair and preventative maintenance experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, technical manuals and maintenance documentation.
  • Strong commitment to safe working practices and maintenance standards.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Willingness and ability to work the required shift pattern.

Desirable:

  • Basic electrical fault-finding skills and confidence working alongside electrical systems.
  • Experience using CMMS or maintenance management systems.
  • Experience working within food and beverage, biotechnology, chemical, pharmaceutical, utilities or manufacturing environments.
  • Welding, fabrication or mechanical fitting experience.
  • Experience supporting plant expansion, commissioning or installation projects.
  • Positive attitude towards continuous improvement and improving equipment reliability.
