A UK-based, mission-led organisation is seeking a Project Accountant to support funded programmes across the UK and internationally. This role offers broad exposure across charity accounting, grant accounting, and project finance within a growing finance team.
Key responsibilities:
- Lead month-end close and year-end close, including balance sheet reconciliations, accruals, prepayments, and journals
- Prepare management accounts, financial reports, and budget vs actual (BvA) analysis
- Manage grant accounting, including restricted and unrestricted funds
- Support multi-currency accounting and FX reporting for international projects
- Prepare and manage project budgets, forecasts, and cashflow reporting
- Oversee accounts payable (AP) and accounts receivable (AR)
- Prepare VAT returns and support charity VAT treatment
- Support audit preparation and work with external auditors
- Maintain oversight of project-related banking activity
- Support UK payroll and liaise with international payroll providers
Requirements:
- Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business
- ACA / ACCA / CIMA qualified or part-qualified
- 4+ years’ experience in charity accounting, not-for-profit, or public practice
- Experience with grants, donor funding, or project-based finance
- Strong Excel skills and experience with accounting systems (e.g. QuickBooks, NetSuite, or similar)
- Highly organised, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple deadlines
