Full‑time, permanent role in the Communications and Engagement Function of the Enablement Group at the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA).
Location and Working Arrangement
Based at 10 South Colonnade, Canary Wharf, London (E14 4PU). The role operates in a hybrid model with a minimum of 8 days per month on site, up to 12 days depending on business needs. Travel to South Mimms, Herts or other locations may be required.

The MHRA regulates medicines and medical devices, using science and research to protect and improve public health. The Communications and Engagement Group supports the agency’s business outcomes by putting patients and the public at the centre of all work.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and develop news and issues management strategies that align with MHRA’s business priorities and corporate plans.
- Proactively anticipate high‑profile and sensitive media issues; manage the agency’s reputation and respond quickly to breaking or negative stories.
- Write, edit and publish content for the agency’s websites and social media using the content management system.
- Produce and oversee handling plans, including press releases, briefing scripts, Q&A documents and shareable social media content.
- Build and nurture relationships with journalists and social media influencers, staying up‑to‑date with media and social media trends.
- Advise on media handling and develop appropriate plans with senior managers across the agency.
- Act as an agency spokesperson, delivering authoritative briefings to the media and participating in a 24‑hour media on‑call rota.
Qualifications and Experience
- Extensive experience in a busy press office or media relations role within a large, complex, expert organisation.
- Proven ability to manage fast‑breaking, high‑profile news stories and enhance organisational reputation.
- Strong written, editorial, social media and oral communication skills.
- Experience evaluating traditional media and social media performance to inform business decisions.
- Ability to influence journalists, social media influencers and senior managers, dealing with conflict calmly.
