The Business Support Assistant will play a key role in supporting the day-to-day running of the business, helping to ensure internal systems, processes, and compliance activities operate effectively. Working closely with the Business Support Manager and wider leadership team, the role offers exposure to a range of business functions, including operations, compliance, and finance. There will be opportunities to develop skills and take on increasing responsibility over time, particularly in areas such as audit preparation and process improvement.
Roles & Responsibilities
- HSQE & Compliance
- Support the preparation for internal and external audits
- Assist with internal compliance checks across company processes
- Help track and follow up actions from non‑conformance reports
- Support monitoring of compliance with Network Rail fatigue management requirements
- Assist in maintaining HSQE and RISQS documentation and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives
- Finance & Administration
- Assist with payroll preparation and supporting records
- Assist with the preparation and issue client invoices
- Process and record employee expenses
- Provide general administrative and operational support
- Maintain accurate job cost data within WorkflowMax (job cost tracking system)
- Marketing & Communications
- Assist with developing website and social media content
- Coordinate marketing activities with the external marketing partner
- Support the preparation of company marketing materials and updates
- Business Development
- Support the preparation of tender submissions
- Monitor procurement portals for new opportunities
- Maintain and update the company CRM system
- Support the management of leads and pipeline activity
Person Specification
- Education
- A degree in Business Management or a related field is desirable but not essential
- Demonstrate a commitment to undertake continuous professional development
- Skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills (in English)
- Ability to work effectively with the Microsoft suite of programs, such as Word, Excel & PowerPoint
- Strong attention to detail
- Extensive knowledge of Quality Assurance Management Systems
- Awareness of Quality Assurance or Management Systems (e.g. ISO standards) is desirable but not essential
- Able to follow instructions and work easily under pressure
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
- Familiarity with tender preparation or procurement portals
- Interest in business operations within consultancy environments
