Job Purpose: As a Senior CAD/BIM Technician, you will take on a more advanced role in creating, reviewing, and managing technical drawings and models for civil engineering projects within all the various departments within MHB. You will guide Graduate and CAD technicians to develop and ensure adherence to quality standards, raise CAD/BIM standards across the company. You will work closely with the engineering design teams and ensure that the requirements for CAD drawings, including technical content and delivery dates, are met. Review CAD and BIM models to ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance with project specifications.
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Lead the preparation of detailed 2D and 3D drawings and models for complex civil engineering projects.
- Review and check drawings produced by Graduates and CAD technicians, ensuring accuracy and compliance with project requirements.
- Collaborate with engineers and project managers to provide technical input and suggestions for design improvements.
- Mentor and train Graduates and CAD technicians, providing guidance and support in developing their CAD skills.
- Development and maintenance of the CAD/BIM Standards Manual.
- Ensure that all drawings adhere to company standards, industry regulations, and project specifications.
- Work to project timelines, budgets, and communication with Project Managers.
- Conduct Virtual Design Reviews with the project team and client meetings.
- Manage licenses and ensure compliance with CAD/BIM software agreements.
- Develop and maintain BIM models throughout the project lifecycle.
- Perform clash detection and resolve conflicts using BIM tools such as Navisworks.
- Coordinate BIM models with multidisciplinary teams to ensure integration and compliance with project standards.
- Ensure drawings and models meet quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) requirements.
Person Specification:
- Education: Diploma or degree in CAD Design, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline. Incorporated or engineering technician qualification with ICE or related professional body.
- Skills: Advanced proficiency in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MicroStation, Revit) and other BIM-related software. Excellent understanding of civil engineering design principles and practices. Good leadership and mentoring skills. Ability to manage workload and prioritise tasks effectively.
- Experience: Typically, 5-8 years of experience in a CAD Technician role within a civil engineering consultancy. Knowledge of BIM standards and ISO 19650 workflows. Familiarity with databases, cloud-based collaboration platforms (e.g., BIM 360/Projectwise).
- Personal Attributes: Detail-oriented with a commitment to producing high-quality work. Capable of working independently and making decisions. Proactive, solution-oriented, and able to handle complex projects.
Additional Notes: Ideally, candidates should have availability to spend 4-5 days in the office weekly.
