What does a career in Corporate Tax actually involve?

Corporate Tax is about helping businesses understand and manage their tax responsibilities while navigating an increasingly complex and changing tax environment. You’ll work with a variety of organisations, from growing owner-managed businesses to larger companies and international groups, building relationships with clients and developing an understanding of how their businesses operate. From an early stage, you’ll support work such as preparing corporate tax computations and returns, researching tax legislation and helping ensure clients meet their compliance obligations, while as your experience develops you will gain exposure to more advisory work around areas such as business transactions, restructuring and international activity. It’s a career that combines technical knowledge with commercial awareness, problem solving and working with people. If you’re interested in businesses, how they operate and how tax influences commercial decisions, Corporate Tax could be a great fit for you. If you’re more interested in working with individuals, families and their personal financial affairs, we’d encourage you to explore our Private Client Tax opportunities instead.

As a Corporate Tax Associate, you'll help businesses navigate their corporate tax obligations, providing technical support and practical advice to a range of clients. Here's what you'll be doing:

  • Preparing corporation tax computations and returns
  • Conducting technical tax research and analysing legislation
  • Advising clients on corporate tax compliance and planning matters
  • Supporting tax advisory projects and transactions
  • Liaising and negotiating with HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC)
  • Building strong client relationships and delivering excellent service
  • Studying towards your professional qualification (ATT Level 5 and CTA Level 7)
