This role will be within our MEICA and capital maintenance team. Our Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation, Control & Automation (MEICA) experts offer a one-stop solution, including ongoing operation and maintenance services. We are seeking a practical, hands-on mechanical technician to work on installation, maintenance, and repairs of water sector equipment – this is not a design or CAD role. The role is field-based and requires experience using tools, fault-finding, and working on mechanical systems such as pumps, valves, pipework and rotating equipment.
What will you be doing?
You will be responsible for maintaining various water assets, including:
- CSO valves
- Penstocks
- Hydraulic Power Units (HPUs)
- Isolation gates
- Inspection of chambers and valve equipment
- Oil equipment inspection, including draining and replacing oil systems
- Inspection of fixed equipment (fixed ladders, safety bars, grills, etc.)
- Utilising tooling and measuring equipment, in accordance with engineering drawings and layouts
- Operating lifting equipment and following approved procedures for plant equipment transportation
- Supporting reactive works during breakdowns
What’s essential?
- Previous experience as a fitter
- Trained or qualified as an apprentice, or to an equivalent NVQ Level 3 in Mechanical Engineering
- Successful completion of ONC/HNC in Engineering, NVQ, or C&G Level 3 in Mechanical Engineering
- Excellent attention to detail
- Strong focus on safety and quality, with a collaborative teamwork approach
- Full UK driver’s licence

- Experience with mobile plant (FLT, MEWP)
- Work at height certification
- Manual handling qualification
- Confined space entry experience
- Pendent crane use experience
