The Role

An opportunity has arisen for a Sustainability Research Analyst, ideally with materials and/or industrials sector experience, to join M&G’s Sustainability Research Team. The role will support thematic and company-level sustainability research, producing high-quality, investment-ready analysis that informs decision-making across the investment platform. The ideal candidate will be a proactive self-starter with strong investment knowledge, capable of independently developing high-quality sustainability research and translating complex issues into clear investment implications.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Produce high-quality, investment-ready sustainability research at company, sector, and thematic level.
  • Communicate research findings clearly and effectively to support investment decision-making.
  • Contribute to thematic research, identifying investment risks and opportunities arising from structural and long-term sustainability trends.
  • Support the development of thematic engagement activities across the investment platform through bottom-up research and analysis.
  • Build and maintain detailed company coverage, including the use of alternative datasets to strengthen proprietary research.
  • Track key thematic segments and leading companies within those segments across the investment universe.
  • Monitor developments within relevant themes and ensure investment views remain aligned with evolving risks and opportunities.
  • Contribute to investment theses, including financial models and valuation methodologies where relevant.
  • Produce thought leadership content, including articles, presentations, and white papers related to priority themes.
  • Engage with external experts, data providers, and companies to deepen understanding of business models, sector developments, and sustainability issues.
  • Contribute to the wider Stewardship & Sustainability agenda.

Key Knowledge, Skills & Experience:

  • Demonstrable experience as a research analyst, with ideally 3-5 years experience, with strong financial acumen and a good understanding of investment processes and capital markets.
  • Experience delivering high-quality analysis and research that supports investment decision-making.
  • Good understanding of climate and sustainability issues relevant to the sectors under coverage.
  • Prior company engagement experience is an advantage.
  • A degree in engineering, science, finance, or economics, with strong numerical and analytical skills.
  • Ideally, you will hold an IMC, CFA ESG or CFA qualification, or be actively studying towards one of these professional certifications.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills and the ability to build effective relationships internally and externally.
  • Ability to produce high-quality reports and deliverables suitable for a senior audience.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a team environment.
  • A proactive self-starter who takes ownership, uses sound judgement, and drives delivery with minimal oversight.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to design and implement practical solutions.
  • Integrity, a strong work ethic, and a clear alignment with our purpose.
  • Previous experience at an asset manager would be beneficial.
