Purpose

We are seeking an experienced retail financial services lawyer to join as a permanent member of the M&G Legal team, focusing on advising our Individual Life & Pensions business. The role will support the development, distribution and ongoing management of retail savings and investment propositions to enable business growth and ensure good customer outcomes.

Key responsibilities
  • Provide timely, clear and commercially pragmatic legal advice on matters relating to:
    • retail savings and investment products
    • product structuring and design
    • customer communications and financial promotions
  • Interpret and apply relevant legal and regulatory frameworks, translating these into practical guidance for the business
  • Support the business in identifying and managing legal, regulatory and conduct risks
  • Advise on the development and implementation of new and existing products and propositions, including changes to features, distribution and servicing models
  • Provide legal input into product lifecycle management, including remediation activity where required
  • Draft, review and advise on:
    • policy terms and conditions
    • customer communications
    • marketing materials and financial promotions
Skills and experienceTechnical expertise
  • Qualified solicitor (England & Wales or equivalent) with at least 4 years of relevant PQE (Essential)
  • Experience of advising within one of the following sectors (Essential):
    • Life insurance and/or
    • Pensions and/or
    • Asset/wealth management and/or
    • Retail financial services
  • Working knowledge of legal and regulatory frameworks relevant to retail savings and investment products.
Commercial and analytical capability
  • Strong ability to apply legal principles pragmatically in a commercial context
  • Sound judgement and ability to balance legal risk with business objectives
  • Ability to manage complex issues and provide clear recommendations

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Proven ability to influence and engage effectively with senior stakeholders
  • Collaborative approach, with the ability to work across functions
