MGL Group is a well-established, family‑run company founded in 1972, delivering a wide range of services across the construction industry. Due to continued growth and investment, we are seeking an HGV Fitter to join our team at our Newburn Site on a full‑time permanent basis.

The Role

As an HGV Fitter, you will be responsible for carrying out maintenance, servicing, diagnostics and repairs across the Group’s fleet, ensuring vehicles remain safe, compliant and operational. Working as part of a skilled workshop team, you will help maintain high standards of workmanship while supporting the smooth running of our operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out routine maintenance, servicing and repairs on HGVs and associated fleet vehicles.
  • Diagnose faults and undertake repairs efficiently and effectively.
  • Complete inspections and ensure vehicles meet legal and company standards.
  • Maintain accurate service and repair records.
  • Work safely and in accordance with Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality standards.
  • Support colleagues and contribute to a positive team‑working environment.
  • Participate in the workshop call‑out rota as required.

What We’re Looking For

  • Time‑served apprentice or qualified to a minimum of NVQ Level 3 in HGV Maintenance, or equivalent mechanical qualification.
  • Previous experience working within an HGV, commercial vehicle or similar workshop environment.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Commitment to maintaining high standards of health and safety.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Flexible approach to working hours to meet business requirements.
  • Class 1 (C+E) licence.
  • Experience within a busy haulage or transport workshop environment.
  • Three to five years’ experience in a similar role.
  • A proactive attitude with a willingness to undertake further training and development.
