MGF are seeking an experienced Senior Engineer to join a leading Temporary Works Engineering department, based in Astley, Manchester, supporting a diverse range of temporary works and structural projects across the UK. Our work covers shoring, structural support systems, and heavy lifting solutions for major infrastructure and construction schemes. This role offers an exciting opportunity to take on technical leadership, provide mentorship, and play a key role in delivering safe, efficient, and buildable Temporary Works design solutions.
Your key responsibilities may include:
- Lead the design and checking of structural and temporary works schemes in accordance with BS5975, including design management and ensuring timely delivery of our special projects. These include complex & high revenue Temporary Works arrangements.
- Manage workloads and uphold MGFs commitment to precision by ensuring all quality assurance processes are followed. Attention to detail is paramount, supporting the continual improvement of the teams design capability and the delivery of safe, high-quality solutions.
- Ensure all designs meet current standards, specifications, and client requirements.
- Liaise with clients, site teams, and other stakeholders to provide practical, buildable engineering solutions.
- Acting as CRE-Design for MGFs Temporary Works scope, following Network Rails formal design procedure (Initially under mentorship).
- Provide technical support and mentoring to Graduate Engineers and CAD Technicians, including MGFs wider sales teams and customers.
- Act as Designated Engineer (DE) and/or Supervising Civil Engineer (SCE) under the ICE Training Scheme, supporting the professional development of junior team members.
- Identify and implement training and development plans with Design Engineers and Team Leaders.
- Help deliver companywide training with a specific focus on Technical, commercial, and H&S training.
The core requirements for this role are:
- Must hold professional registration at IEng or CEng level with either the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) or the Institution of Structural Engineers (IStructE).
- Minimum five years of design experience in Temporary Works, with a strong emphasis on both structural and geotechnical engineering principles.
- Strong technical knowledge of temporary works and demonstrable experience applying BS5975, including CAT II design checking.
- Thorough understanding of CDM 2015, including roles and responsibilities.
- Proven management and mentoring skills with experience supporting Graduate Engineers and Technicians.
- Excellent communication, coordination, and problem-solving abilities.
- A proactive and collaborative approach to engineering challenges.
Desirable experience:
- Temporary Works design and checking experience (e.g. excavation support, General temporary propping systems including façade retention and bridge jacking).
- Experience acting as DE or SCE under an ICE-approved training scheme, and active within ICE/IStructE.
