The Role

Commercial Analyst – 8‑9 month Fixed Term Contract. M&G outsources a significant part of its operational business to suppliers and therefore must ensure the successful commercial management of these supplier relationships. Due to the size and complexity of these contracts, analytical support is required both for business and regulatory purposes.

The Commercial Analyst role will support both the day‑to‑day commercial aspects of managing M&G’s major contracts and relationships as well as ensuring that M&G Life meets the regulatory and key control requirements associated with outsourced supplier services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure the regulatory and key control requirements associated with outsourced supplier services are delivered.
  • Ensure that supplier charges are accurate, challenged where appropriate and invoices are paid in line with contract timescales.
  • Provide analytical and reporting support to Commercial Managers.
  • Provide insight around M&G needs and industry/market trends to enable identification of commercial opportunities and risks.
  • Continuously challenge and question the cost base with a view to identifying opportunities to reduce cost without detriment to service.
  • Lead and coordinate formal supplier commercial governance, including production of materials and minutes, and attend executive‑level governance meetings to record minutes and actions.
  • Support the development and application of Supplier Management best practice.
  • Manage the cost validation and forecasting cycle.
  • Respond to queries from the wider business for contract information.
  • Independently manage some aspects of M&G’s contracts, under the direction of the Commercial Manager.
  • Independently manage smaller project initiatives.
  • Look for and implement AI where appropriate to bring efficiencies.

Key Knowledge

  • Essential – Working knowledge of analytical tools and techniques including AI.
  • Essential – Working knowledge of financial modelling.
  • Essential – Working knowledge of contract management principles and practice.
  • Desirable – Working knowledge of commercial negotiation techniques.
  • Desirable – Foundation knowledge of contract law.
  • Desirable – Foundation knowledge of end‑to‑end sourcing process.

Key Experience

  • Essential – Experience providing analytical support in complex business environments.
  • Essential – Some experience working in a commercial/regulatory environment.
  • Desirable – Some experience working with third‑party suppliers/outsource arrangements.
  • Desirable – Some relevant industry (Financial Services) working experience.

Qualifications

  • Desirable – Degree qualified.
  • Desirable – Relevant professional qualifications (CIMA, Prince2, IACCM).
