The M&G plc Life Investment Office (LIO) is responsible for the management of M&G Life's With-Profits, Annuity and Unit-Linked funds, with more than £150bn of funds under management. LIO works closely with the various asset management businesses within the M&G plc Group, and other external managers, to structure multi-asset portfolios aligned with the investment objectives of our clients. The ESG & Regulatory team devises ESG policy and investment strategy at the asset owner level, and drives these into portfolio allocations, benchmarks and positions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for carrying out ESG investment analysis with a focus on social issues for the Investment Office, on behalf of M&G's life portfolios, covering annuity, with profits and unit-linked business.
  • Supporting the formulation of ESG investment strategy and policies for the Investment Office for the same portfolios, with a focus on social issues.
  • Supporting the monitoring of adherence of portfolios to the Asset Owner ESG investment policy, with a focus on social issues, alongside other key stakeholders.
  • Supporting stewardship and ownership of M&G Life's appointed managers with regards to ESG and social issues in particular.
  • Supporting ESG reporting requirements.
  • Contributing to the delivery of wider company ESG project milestones and priorities.
  • Supporting governance, attestation and administrative requirements.
  • To work collaboratively with colleagues and take personal accountability to maintain and enhance controls you are responsible for to support improvement of the overall control environment, customer outcomes and management of M&G's operational risk.

Key Skills & Experience required for this role

  • Some knowledge of social issues in sustainability and how they may impact investment strategy.
  • Familiarity with the UN Global Compact Principles, the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights and the OECD Guidelines on Multinational Enterprises on Responsible Business Conduct and how these can be used in an investment context.
  • An interest in and some knowledge of wider ESG topics and investment considerations.
  • Ability to research potentially unfamiliar topics and translate findings into investment policies and positions in the context of insurance investments.
  • Comfort in working with and presenting to stakeholders across different functions and knowledge bases.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritise and deliver work in a flexible manner and to deadlines.
  • Ability to work within a team environment.
  • Effective analytical skills.
  • Effective problem solving skills.
  • Good MS Office Suite skills, e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Power BI.

DESIRABLE

  • Some knowledge of asset classes and their roles in multi-asset and annuity portfolios.

QUALIFICATIONS (if applicable)

  • IMC qualification desirable.
  • CFA or ESG qualification an advantage.
