This is a senior role in our Corporate Pensions business reporting to the Head of Workplace Pensions. Client Managers are responsible for the leadership and maintenance of senior level client relationships for our corporate pension business both in the public and private sectors. We are focused on supporting our clients and customers who entrust us with in excess of £10bn Funds under Management.

The successful candidate will be accountable for:

  • Managing a specific set of existing clients through remote and face‑to‑face interactions
  • Retaining and enhancing relationships through active management
  • Meeting client needs by leveraging the capability of our organisation and influencing the proposition
  • Working with the Workplace Team to develop the proposition as emerging regulations (e.g. The Pensions Bill and Value for Money framework) give greater clarity to regulatory and propositional requirements

The ideal person will be a credible and well‑presented individual with significant client management and propositional experience in workplace pensions. Great attention to detail and being able to manage competing priorities are critical. This is a great opportunity to be part of a collaborative and busy team and to develop the business to reflect the needs of the market and regulations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Proactively defend and successfully retain clients by developing strong relationships at an organisational leadership level.
  • Provide Clients and Customers with an exceptional experience of M&G
  • Support the business with ad hoc communication and represent the needs of clients and customers internally
  • Manage scheme and client relationships through regular dialogue and provide clients with key governance information, investment, propositional and operational updates as required.
  • Represent the customer in all interactions both internally and externally
  • To develop the Workplace Pensions proposition to meet the changing requirements of clients and regulations especially in relation to the Pensions Bill and the new Value for Money framework

Key Knowledge, Skills & Experience

  • Outstanding relationship skills including ability to manage challenging conversations, show empathy and the ability to negotiate within strict parameters
  • Developed knowledge of pensions industry best practice, good network/links with external bodies and individuals in the same field
  • Strong understanding of workplace pensions products including Stakeholder schemes, GPP, MPP and AVCs
  • Understanding of the Statements of Principle and Code of Practice
  • Strong knowledge of financial services regulatory and legislative frameworks
  • Significant experience of working within a distribution, sales or relationship management environment
  • Material experience of working in a face‑to‑face client role at a senior (board) level is essential
  • Ability to work to specific and short deadlines and able to manage competing priorities
  • Excellent collaboration skills to build relationships internally and influence the business on behalf of your clients and customers
  • Excellent presentation skills both in development and delivery of both positive and negative messages
  • Working experience of Word, PowerPoint and Excel
  • Knowledge of Salesforce.com and timely/accurate updating of client interactions
