Business Risk Partner – M&G Life Investment Office
The M&G Life Investment Office (LIO) is responsible for the management of Prudential UK’s With-Profits, Annuity and Unit-Linked funds, with more than £150bn of funds under management. The LIO works closely with the various asset management businesses within the M&G plc Group, and other external managers, to structure multi-asset portfolios aligned with the investment objectives of our clients.
The Business Risk Partner will work directly within LIO, reporting into the COO, whilst also liaising with the central Risk, Assurance & Remediation team which forms part of M&G’s first line of defence within the Life division to ensure adequate risk support is provided to Executive.
Key Responsibilities for this role
- To support IO in applying the requirements of M&G’s Operational Risk Framework
- To maintain the business area risk profile and keep supporting documentation & systems up to date e.g. RCSA, controls descriptions, risk acceptances, risk assessments etc.
- Assess and monitor control environment metrics for the LIO
- Participate and support assurance reviews, in order to provide senior management with ongoing comprehensive end-to-end assurance over key business processes
- Participate in a executing a risk-based control testing program, in order to provide senior management with ongoing comprehensive end-to-end assurance over key business processes
- To operate pro-active risk management, including root cause analysis into issues and control failings and contribute to the design of action plans to ensure they mitigate and resolve identified issues
- To monitor the remediation of issues, and events discussing outcomes with relevant stakeholders and ensuring MetricStream remains updated in line with operational risk standards
- To operate and drive a culture of risk and controls awareness within the local business area, providing active communications, guidance and training to the business area when required
- Identify problem areas, trends, and risks associated with processes by completing deep dive activity
- Maintain proactive communication with senior management including regular updates on engagement progress and identified or potential issues
- Produce reporting for use in local IO executive governance to ensure that the M&G Life CIO has an up to date risk profile which facilitates productive risk based discussions
- Being responsible for maintenance of the IO Conflicts of Interest register
- Work flexibly and building collaboratively constructive and supportive working relationships with teams across M&G plc and internal and external suppliers
- Keep abreast of industry trends, regulatory and business issues
- Support the development and review of internal standards, procedures and frameworks
- Support supplier oversight and ongoing due diligence activities undertaken by the Operations team in line with LIO’s and M&G plc’s supplier risk framework
Key Knowledge, Skills & Experience
- Experience of applying quality assurance and quality control methodologies within a Financial Services operational environment
- Experience of controls assurance and testing for instance, from an audit background
- Experience of implementing risk, assurance and/or oversight methodologies
- Experience of risk management, assurance and/or supplier oversight in regulated financial services organisations
- Working knowledge of asset management businesses and experience working with front office, dealing and operational teams highly desirable
- Pro-active approach to problem solving, understanding root causes, and driving continuous improvement
- Strong analytical mind and an eye for detail
- Strong communication and influencing skills
- Working knowledge of life and pensions products, markets and competitors (Preferred)
- Working knowledge of M&G products, systems, services and distribution methods (Preferred)
