Our purpose is to give everyone real confidence to put their money to work. With a heritage dating back more than 175 years, we have a long history of innovation in savings and investments, combining asset management and insurance expertise to offer a wide range of solutions. Our two distinct operating segments, Asset Management and Life, work together to provide access to balanced, long-term investment and savings solutions.
M&G is making material investments in its digital and data capabilities, to improve customer experience, streamline processes, improve controls and embed data in the way we operate. We are ramping up a Group-wide data transformation programme to drive material improvements in complex, cross-functional processes operating across Asset Management, Life Insurance and Finance, through better access to data. The programme aims to implement high-impact, data-driven use cases in subsequent, time-boxed waves.
You will be the bridge between what the business needs and what technology delivers. This is a hybrid role β part business analyst, part data specialist β where you will need to roll up your sleeves and analyse source systems directly, not just document what stakeholders tell you. You will translate complex data requirements into actionable specifications, challenge requirements that are unfeasible or technically costly, and ensure data definitions align consistently across business groups. This role is about building permanent, in-house expertise. The initial focus will be a strategic Real Estate data product.
Key accountabilities for this role:
- Lead complex data analysis to validate business requirements β interrogating source systems directly rather than relying solely on stakeholder interviews.
- Work with business stakeholders across Asset Management, Life Insurance and Finance to elicit, identify and document and translate business requirements into functional and non-functional data requirements, ensuring definitions align across business groups.
- Understand and map ETL processes, assessing upstream and downstream data flows, dependencies and interdependencies within the enterprise data architecture.
- Write technical IT change narratives that translate business needs into specifications technology teams can build against, with full traceability. Interrogate and sense-check requirements from a sustainable data perspective, challenging and providing options to the business when requirements are unfeasible or technically costly.
- Interface closely with Data Engineering teams to ensure requirements are accurately converted into built data products.
- Lead data quality assessments and support the development of data-driven improvement strategies, supporting Data Governance & Data Management Colleagues.
Key Skills and Experience:
- Proven expertise combining business analysis with hands-on data skills β you can analyse source systems, not just facilitate workshops.
- Strong understanding of Enterprise Data Platforms, semantic models, and dimensional modelling (star schemas, fact/dimension tables).
- Experience with data architecture principles, ETL processes, and data pipeline concepts.
- Proficiency in SQL for data validation and analysis; familiarity with data visualisation tools and cloud-based data platforms.
- Track record translating complex data requirements into technical specifications in financial services.
- Ability to translate technical data concepts into business-friendly language for diverse stakeholders up to senior leadership level.
Key Behaviours:
- Analytically rigorous β you dig into the detail and validate what you are told rather than taking requirements at face value.
- Constructively challenging β you push back when requirements donβt make sense from a data perspective, while maintaining productive relationships.
- Strong communicator who bridges business and technology teams, translating in both directions.
- Pragmatic problem-solver who balances ideal data solutions with delivery constraints.
- Collaborative across boundaries β works effectively with Data Engineering, business SMEs, and senior stakeholders.
