The Investment Risk Analyst – Risk Analytics & Modelling reports to the Head of Investment Risk For Private Markets within the Investment Risk function. The role involves working closely with the Investment Risk team, Technology, and other relevant departments to build and maintain the analytical infrastructure, risk models, and production reporting that underpin investment and credit risk oversight across M&G's funds and mandates.
The role holder will develop and maintain production risk analytics, manage risk data and platform infrastructure, and support the governance of risk models. This is a hands-on technical role that combines risk domain knowledge with modern data engineering and analytics development skills.
Key responsibilities include:
- Maintaining risk data pipelines and quality standards.
- Developing and operating production analytics in Python and DataBricks.
- Building and maintaining PowerBI dashboards for governance, CRO reporting, and regulatory obligations.
- Supporting risk model validation and backtesting.
- Providing analytics advisory services to Investment Risk Specialists.
Skills, Knowledge & Experience:
- Proven 4 years'+ experience in an investment risk, investment quant analytics, risk technology or a technical business analyst role at an asset management house or other financial services (asset management, banking, or insurance). [Essential]
- Strong Python and SQL skills, production-quality code, data pipelines, query optimisation, and working with large datasets. Experience with version control (Git/Azure DevOps) and disciplined development practices. [Essential]
- Understanding of investment risk concepts: VaR, stress testing, credit risk metrics, leverage, and performance attribution. [Essential]
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate with technology teams through the development lifecycle, writing business requirements, participating in solution design, and leading UAT. [Essential]
- Background in asset management, quantitative finance, or a related field, with a solid understanding of financial markets and fixed income products. [Essential]
- Experience with DataBricks, Spark, or cloud-based analytics platforms, and developing dashboards/reports using PowerBI or comparable tools. [Highly Desired]
- Understanding of derivatives (rates, inflation, credit) — their valuations, risk sensitivities, and how they are represented in risk models. [Highly Desired]
- Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools (e.g. GitHub Copilot) and an interest in applying automation to improve efficiency of risk processes. [Desired]
- Experience with Aladdin (BlackRock) or comparable enterprise risk platforms. Knowledge of UCITS/AIFMD regulatory reporting, leverage calculations, or fund oversight processes. [Desired]
- CFA, FRM, or equivalent qualification (or working towards). [Desired]
