Specialist Cardiac Physiologist – Band 6
We are looking for enthusiastic, committed and dynamic Specialist Cardiac Physiologists to join the Cardiac Physiology team at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT).
The successful candidates will work across MFT sites, providing high-quality cardiac diagnostic services within both a large tertiary centre and community settings. This is an exciting opportunity to join a forward-thinking service and contribute to development of cardiac diagnostic services across the organisation.

Main duties of the job
As a Specialist Cardiac Physiologist, you will work across the full range ofnon-invasive and Invasive cardiac diagnostic services, developing and maintaining your clinical skills across a varied and busy service.
You will also have the opportunity to support advanced specialist procedures as a second operator, working under the supervision of an Advanced or Expert Cardiac Physiologist and developing your experience in more complex investigations and procedures.
The role also includes working within the Cardiac Catheter Laboratory, where you will participate in a wide range of invasive cardiac procedures and contribute to the delivery of high-quality patient care throughout the procedural pathway.
You will also participate in the on-call service for Primary Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PPCI), providing specialist cardiac physiology support for patients requiring emergency coronary intervention.
The role provides an excellent opportunity for a physiologist looking to broaden their clinical experience across both invasive and non-invasive cardiology, while developing the skills required for future career progression within cardiac physiology.

What is a DBS Check?
A DBS check is a background check that reveals any criminal convictions, cautions, reprimands, or warnings. The level of check required depends on the role:
Standard DBS : Checks for spent and unspent convictions, cautions, reprimands, and final warnings.
Enhanced DBS : Includes the above, plus any additional information held by local police that’s considered relevant to the role.
Enhanced with Barred Lists: Includes all of the above, plus checks against the children’s and/or adults’ barred lists.
Who Needs a DBS Check
Most roles involving direct patient contact, working with children or vulnerable adults, or access to sensitive information will require a DBS check. The job advert and recruitment team will let you know if this applies to your role.
The Costs for a DBS
At Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT), roles that require a DBS check are subject to a cost recovery policy. This means that the cost of submitting and processing a DBS application if you are successful and join us, will be deducted from your salary within the first three months of employment.If, however, you withdraw from a conditional offer after the DBS process has begun, you will still be liable for the cost incurred.
Candidates are also expected to register with the DBS Update Service which must be completed within 30 days of the certificate being issued. This helps streamline future employment checks and supports safer recruitment practices. For more information, please visit the DBS Update Service.

Qualification
- BSc Clinical Physiology/BSc Healthcare Science or MSc Healthcare Science or equivalent
- Regular attendance at professional bodies’ educational meetings (BSE,BCIS, etc)
- Voluntary Registration with ACHCS or HCPC
- Working towards BSE Adult TTE Accreditation or Working towards BHRS Accreditation
Experience
- Qualifying length of service for state registration in cardiac physiology
- Tertiary cardiac physiology practise
- Participation in cardiac research
- Formal teaching of Cardiac Physiologists & other HCPs
- Multi-disciplinary team work

- Practises a wide range of specialist cardiac physiology diagnostics and interventions.
