We have an exciting opportunity for a motivated individual, who is an excellent team player, flexible, self-motivated, and able to demonstrate professionalism, excellent organisational and communication skills. You must be able to work accurately, quickly and under pressure, have a good eye for detail, be able to prioritise your workload to meet deadlines and be committed to deliver a high standard patient focused service.

This role will include 1 in 5 Saturday working as part of a rota. Bank Holiday and On call working as part of a rota. Posts will be based the Oxford Road Campus, with the requirement of working across our other site at Wythenshawe.

Applications welcome from pharmacy technicians qualifying in the next six months and from registered pharmacy technicians in community settings who wish to develop their career at MFT.

This is a progressive role depending on experience and will begin as a Band 4 but will progress to Band 5 on completion of agreed criteria.

Main duties of the job

Working closely with Aseptic Services Specialist Senior Technicians, you will lead a team of technical staff and coordinate the preparation and supply of aseptically prepared products. Committed to high standards, you will ensure an efficient, safe and effective service is provided to patients. You will contribute to our ethos of providing a positive, forward thinking, and professional working environment in which staff work with each other and for each other. As a valued member of the team, you will be supported to develop your knowledge of aseptic services and managerial skills to progress in your career.

Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check

What is a DBS Check?

A DBS check is a background check that reveals any criminal convictions, cautions, reprimands, or warnings. The level of check required depends on the role:

Standard DBS: Checks for spent and unspent convictions, cautions, reprimands, and final warnings.

Enhanced DBS: Includes the above, plus any additional information held by local police that’s considered relevant to the role.

Enhanced with Barred Lists: Includes all of the above, plus checks against the children’s and/or adults’ barred lists.

Who Needs a DBS Check

Most roles involving direct patient contact, working with children or vulnerable adults, or access to sensitive information will require a DBS check. The job advert and recruitment team will let you know if this applies to your role.

The Costs for a DBS

At Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT), roles that require a DBS check are subject to a cost recovery policy. This means that the cost of submitting and processing a DBS application if you are successful and join us, will be deducted from your salary within the first three months of employment. If, however, you withdraw from a conditional offer after the DBS process has begun, you will still be liable for the cost incurred.

Qualifications

  • NVQ3 / BTEC in Pharmacy Services or Equivalent nationally recognised qualification
  • Leeds University Aseptic Preparation of Medicines (APDM) short course
  • Relevant post qualification Aseptic Services training and courses

Registration

  • Registered with the GPhC

Knowledge and Experience

  • Substantial post qualification experience as a technician in hospital pharmacy and experience as an Aseptically trained technician
  • Good working knowledge of safe dispensing and aseptic practices.
  • Evidence of supervising staff and workload on a dayto-day basis
  • Evidence of active involvement in service development
  • General awareness of what the role involves
  • Knowledge and understanding of GMP and QA and its application to Aseptic processing

Skills

  • Good Interpersonal Skills to promote good customer service.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure.
  • Demonstrate good time management and organisational skills.
