Job overview

This is an exciting opportunity to join our Pulmonary Function team at Manchester Royal Infirmary as a Specialist Respiratory Physiologist (Band 6).

We're looking for a motivated, caring professional with a keen eye for detail and the post-registration experience to take the next step in their healthcare science career.

Working autonomously, you'll undertake and report on routine and complex assessments—from bronchial provocation to assisting in cardio-pulmonary exercise tests (CPET).

Beyond clinical testing, you'll take on personal leadership responsibilities within the department, actively mentoring students and new starters to share your expertise. If you want to grow your career in a supportive, digitally innovative environment, this is the ideal role for you.

Main duties of the job

You’ll plan, perform, and independently report on a wide range of complex respiratory and sleep diagnostics, including cardio-pulmonary exercise tests (CPET) and bronchial provocation.

Working autonomously, you’ll analyse highly complex clinical data to formulate accurate technical reports, communicating these vital results to our senior healthcare professionals.

You’ll play a central role in our team's development by mentoring and teaching junior healthcare scientists and students, sharing your specialist knowledge.

With a keen eye for detail, you’ll oversee equipment calibration and quality assurance, ensuring our diagnostic tools meet the highest clinical standards.

You’ll contribute to departmental research, clinical audits, and service evaluation, helping us continuously improve the care we offer our patients.

Finally, you’ll be a compassionate, flexible communicator who remains calm under pressure and shares our commitment to equality, diversity, and core NHS values.
