Job overview
Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust is seeking an exceptional leader to join the Trust as Director of Integrated Quality Governance.
Reporting jointly to the Deputy Trust Chief Executive and Chief Nursing Officer and the Joint Chief Medical Officer, this is a pivotal leadership role with responsibility for the strategic delivery of clinical governance across one of the largest and most complex NHS organisations in the UK.
Leading a broad portfolio, you will be accountable for the delivery of clinical governance, patient safety, clinical effectiveness, patient experience, quality assurance, organisational learning, risk management and regulatory compliance. You will ensure that governance intelligence is translated into meaningful improvement, supporting high-quality care and delivering better outcomes for patients.
Main duties of the job
The postholder will provide strategic leadership across the Trust's governance functions, ensuring robust systems are in place to identify and manage risk, support learning, provide assurance and drive continuous improvement. Working closely with senior clinical, operational and corporate leaders, you will strengthen quality, reduce unwarranted variation and help embed a culture of learning, improvement and accountability across the organisation.
You will also lead the Trust's engagement with key regulatory bodies, including the Care Quality Commission (CQC), Human Tissue Authority (HTA) and Health and Safety Executive (HSE), ensuring compliance with statutory requirements and organisational readiness for inspection and external review. A key aspect of the role will be to support the development, implementation and continuous improvement of the Trust's Quality Management System.

Person specification
Education & Qualifications
- Educated to Master’s degree in health related subject with experience of working at a senior level
- First level registration with the NMC
Knowledge
- Extensive clinical governance experience including, risk management, incident management, PSIRF, clinical effectiveness, complaints, claims, PALS, legal services and more widely implementation of quality management systems
- Demonstrable experience of developing, implementing and reviewing governance frameworks, policies and procedures to strengthen organisational accountability assurance and preparedness.
- Experience of advising Executive members and sub board committees including preparation of high-quality reports
- A comprehensive understanding of health care policy and strategic delivery alongside system partners.
- Strong understanding of compliance – clinical, regulatory and statutory ensuring that the organization meets its required duties including CQC,HSE,HTA
- Substantial experience of risk management, assurance and internal controls ensuring identification, escalation and management of risk.
- Demonstrable leadership and management experience
- Experience of managing and analyzing complex, confidential and sensitive information
- Provide strategic governance advice that enables effective delivery of organisational strategy and long-term objectives
- Delivery of the Trust annual Quality Account
Skills
- Strong influencing and negotiation skills, with the credibility and confidence to challenge constructively at a senior leadership level while maintaining effective professional relationships communication and presentation skills, including the ability to prepare concise, high quality reports, assurance papers and briefings for executive and non-executive audiences.
- Proven ability to lead investigations, reviews and organisational learning processes, ensuring lessons are translated into sustainable improvements in quality, safety and performance
- Ability to develop and maintain effective governance, accountability and decision making structures that support delivery of organisational strategy and operational performance
