THE ROLE
Using strong investment and operational knowledge, the Portfolio Specialist team provides 24 hour coverage to the investment teams, and performs a specialized set of duties related to the portfolio management and order entry process. Based on instruction from the portfolio management team, the Portfolio Specialist Lead Specialist will create and prepare equity orders for the Trading department. Using discretion and judgment, assess portfolio complexities, workload and order volumes in order to prioritize and adjust their workflow according to market deadlines and other competing demands from the investment and trading teams. The Portfolio Specialist - Lead Specialist will work closely with operations, equity and fixed income trading and portfolio management to monitor significant upcoming cash flows and account transitions and assist in the implementation of any instruction provided by the investment teams.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Use MFS Proprietary Global Modeling tool to create cash management equity program order baskets which facilitate raising or spending cash, bringing portfolios in-line with a model fund, or loading a quantitative solutions transaction model, based on specific instructions received from the Portfolio Manager. The baskets are prepared and independently checked for quality control before handing off to trading for execution.
- Acting with specific instructions, provide support to the equity investment team by creating or modifying orders in the trading systems and ensuring accuracy prior to execution by the Trading Department.
- Work closely with the Global Client Administration and Investment Risk Monitoring team and portfolio management to resolve portfolio investment guideline, client restriction or other compliance related matters. Ensures the Portfolio Manager is aware of any and all compliance issues affecting his/her original order instructions, makes any adjustments per the manager's instruction, and shepherds the order to the trading blotter for execution by equity trading.
- Monitor email communication between the investment team, trading and portfolio specialist team to ensure all manager order instructions are acknowledged, understood, and prioritized for timely and accurate completion. Acts as liaison between investment teams and operations in the swift resolution of any order entry or modification, or transition related issues.
- Conditional to Non-US market coverage, uses DTCC CTM, confirms all daily trading activity, including Cash (Equity and Fixed Income) and Derivative securities. Is responsible for all trade date matching duties on the day the trades are executed to ensure Straight Through Processing.

- Proven expertise in equity, fixed income and derivative security types.
- Experience with MFS proprietary trading systems desired.
- Proven ability to perform job responsibilities independently and effectively in a demanding environment. Attention to detail and accuracy required.
- Strong oral and written communication skills required.
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
