THE ROLE

The Global Fixed Income Institutional Portfolio Manager (IPM) is an integral member of the MFS Fixed Income investment organization. The role is positioned within portfolio management teams focused on Global Multi‑Sector, Global Credit, Global Sovereign, and European‑focused public fixed income investment strategies. The IPM represents these teams in direct engagements with clients, prospects, consultants & gatekeepers, and other marketplace stakeholders worldwide, providing transparency of investment philosophy, process and portfolio strategy. The IPM also serves as an investment leader for internal MFS colleagues to shape investment narratives, share market insights, communicate portfolio strategy, and serve as a subject matter expert in assisting the execution of strategic initiatives. Importantly, the IPM also delivers marketplace insights to investment teams and contributes to ongoing enhancement of investment process and overall alignment to client objectives and expectations. The position is in MFS’ London investment office and will report to the MFS Head of Institutional Fixed Income.

What You Will Do

  • Integrate into portfolio management teams with a strong level of credibility and respect.
  • Represent the voice of the client within investment teams and across the Fixed Income investment organization, ensuring team awareness of client objectives, sharing client feedback, and promoting alignment to highest quality investment standards.
  • Serve as the primary external marketplace and MFS cross‑organizational representative of respective investment teams, providing clarity & depth of investment philosophy, process, portfolio strategy and overall global macroeconomic & asset class insights.
  • Lead investment team preparation for optimizing client engagements.
  • Deliver relevant marketplace insights into the Fixed Income investment organization, including important trends, developments, and competitive positioning.
  • Contribute investment insights and viewpoints as part of portfolio team strategy discussions.
  • Partner with product and RFP teams to develop and support oversight of investment collateral and to contribute to facilitating client deliverables.
  • Collaborate across distribution teams to catalyse & promote strategic initiatives and organizational priorities.
  • Partner organizationally to support development of expanded investment capabilities and strategies.
  • Support a unified, team‑oriented IPM organization focused on the development, execution, and sharing of best practices.

What We Are Looking For

  • Ideally 7+ years of experience communicating, collaborating, and developing strategic relationships with sophisticated institutional asset owners, consultants and gatekeepers.
  • Robust capability to deliver in-depth transparency for investment process, strategy viewpoints and portfolio positioning, with a refined and flexible ability to contextualize within a global macroeconomic framework.
  • Multi‑dimensional knowledge of global and regional fixed income markets, including delineated rates and credit understanding.
  • Broad written, verbal and client‑facing investment communication skills, with the capability to effectively tailor engagement across a range of investment knowledge and understanding.
  • Demonstrated history of proactively and effectively engaging across multiple teams of organizational stakeholders in collaborative partnership.
  • Desire and capability to travel extensively, with a particular focus on Europe and the Americas.
  • Pan‑European language skills very positively viewed.
