Responsibilities

  • With discretion and judgment, the Compliance Business Partner supports the operations of the Compliance Department and provides strategic direction on the coordination of significant functions and resources of an assigned compliance group.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance with respect to work done within Compliance as well as on the part of the business units supported by the compliance group.
  • Interact with MFS management to monitor and resolve regulatory and compliance issues.
  • Provide leadership in policy development and interpretation based upon global regulatory and legal frameworks.
  • Work with Compliance management and senior management to ensure that, within a specific part of the business, the organization’s activities comply with all pertinent legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Act as first point of call for EMEA Sales and Distribution staff providing sales practice compliance guidance, including social media use, gift and entertainment, and leading on escalations to senior management where necessary.
  • Stay abreast of rules and regulations affecting compliance activities and ensure through supervision and testing that these rules and regulations are met.
  • In conjunction with Compliance management and senior management, implement compliance programs to monitor compliance and identify and resolve issues in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Implement changes to the compliance monitoring program, policies/procedures/manuals, training programs and business processes and systems as needed.
  • Identify and interact with key personnel at all levels across MFS to resolve complex compliance issues.
  • Engage with internal and external programmers and developers in the design and application of technology systems to support policy input and implementation.
  • Lead projects to integrate Department and corporate initiatives with new or existing workflows and processes to meet applicable goals within regulatory, internal and other frameworks.
  • Provide training on new and revised regulations, as well as relevant compliance policies, to employees within and outside of the Compliance Department.
  • May provide training, guidance and support to the Compliance Department on systems-related issues, including project development, and may operate as a liaison with other systems areas in the company.
  • Maintain records or systems that maintain records in conformity with regulatory and retention requirements.
  • Manage the review of compliance systems to validate their utility in satisfying regulatory and compliance requirements; identify opportunities to automate and improve efficiency.
  • Develop, review and update procedures and controls within the group and other areas of the company performing compliance functions.
  • Investigate potential breaches of compliance rules and conduct; identify regulatory issues or concerns, provide senior-level reports and recommend corrective actions.
  • Perform additional related responsibilities as required.
  • What we are looking for
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent direct experience.
  • Relevant experience in a Financial Services environment is preferred.
  • Ability to drive solutions throughout the organization and present ideas effectively.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, communication, collaborative problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills.
  • Strong writing ability to present research, analysis and conclusions persuasively.
  • Proven ability to develop and foster strong interpersonal relationships and maintain effective cross-functional teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with outside parties at all organizational levels.
  • Strong presentation skills and comfort presenting before groups (40+).
  • Experience in data structure and analysis; hands-on experience with compliance and investment systems is desirable.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point) and the ability to learn MFS systems as required.
  • Proven analytical skills; ability to make independent decisions, develop creative solutions, and drive implementation to acceptance.
  • Ability to operate in a cross-functional, often international, team environment and occasional overtime as necessary.
  • Some periodic domestic travel may be required.
