MFM Health is seeking a Wound Care Physician Consultant to provide specialized outpatient wound care services and clinical leadership in support of our growing wound care program in our Middleton, MA location. This part-time position (approximately one day per week) will focus on the evaluation and management of patients with acute, chronic, and non-healing wounds in an outpatient primary care setting. The Wound Care Physician Consultant will serve as the clinical expert for wound management, partnering closely with primary care providers and the wound care team to develop treatment plans, establish best practices, provide education and mentorship, and support program growth. This role is designed to identify and manage wounds early in the disease process, helping patients heal and avoid progression to advanced wound care or hyperbaric treatment when possible. This position does not include hyperbaric medicine services, inpatient responsibilities, hospital coverage, or call requirements.
Essential Responsibilities
- Evaluate and manage patients with acute, chronic, and non-healing wounds in an outpatient setting.
- Perform comprehensive wound assessments and develop individualized treatment plans.
- Recommend evidence-based wound care interventions, dressings, and treatment protocols.
- Perform office-based wound procedures and debridement, as appropriate.
- Collaborate with primary care providers and specialists to coordinate patient care.
- Identify patients requiring escalation to advanced wound care services and facilitate appropriate referrals.
Program Development & Leadership
- Assist in the development and implementation of MFM Health's outpatient wound care program.
- Establish clinical workflows, treatment protocols, and quality standards for wound care services.
- Provide guidance on equipment, supplies, and wound care product selection.
- Support program growth initiatives and help identify opportunities to expand services.
- Participate in quality improvement activities related to wound healing outcomes and patient experience.
Education & Team Support
- Serve as a clinical resource for wound care nurses, medical assistants, and providers.
- Provide ongoing education, mentorship, and training to the wound care team.
- Assist in onboarding and competency development for staff involved in wound management.
- Offer consultation support to primary care providers regarding wound care best practices and treatment recommendations.
Qualifications
- MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school.
- Board Certification in a relevant specialty.
- Active and unrestricted Massachusetts medical license.
- Experience managing acute and chronic wounds in an outpatient setting.
- Demonstrated expertise in evidence-based wound care management.
Preferred
- Certification or advanced training in wound care (CWSP, CWS, ABWM, or equivalent).
- Previous experience developing or leading a wound care program.
- Experience providing clinical education and staff training.
