About the role: We’re working with a forward-thinking, client-facing M&E Consultancy that is looking to appoint a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to lead mechanical services design across a variety of projects. This is a pivotal role within a dynamic team, offering the opportunity to work on high-profile developments alongside industry-leading professionals.

As a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, you will lead design activities, mentor junior engineers, and play a key part in client engagement and project delivery from concept through to completion.

Day-to-day responsibilities include:

  • Lead and manage mechanical design projects, ensuring quality and compliance throughout.
  • Mentor and supervise junior engineers, supporting technical development and performance.
  • Interpret client briefs and translate into efficient, innovative mechanical systems design.
  • Carry out site surveys, condition assessments, and defect inspections; produce associated reports.
  • Prepare and produce detailed designs, drawings, calculations (using IES), and technical specifications.
  • Coordinate closely with internal Electrical, CAD, and admin teams to ensure streamlined project delivery.
  • Represent mechanical and electrical interests in Design Team Meetings.
  • Operate AutoCAD and BIM systems; training and progression in Revit MEP supported.
  • Develop and deliver PPM surveys, O&M manuals, and inspection certifications.
  • Support continuous professional development (CPD) activities for yourself and junior staff.

About you:

  • Significant experience in mechanical design within the building services/consultancy sector.
  • HNC (or higher) in Building Services Engineering or related discipline.
  • Proficient in IES, AutoCAD, and MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Familiar with BIM and Revit MEP or willing to undertake training.
  • Strong communicator, able to build and maintain internal and external stakeholder relationships.
  • Highly organised with a proactive, solutions-led mindset.
  • Comfortable taking responsibility and working independently when required.
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
