This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced IT Field Engineer who enjoys working with a broad range of technologies, visiting customer sites, supporting projects, and being part of a collaborative technical team.

The role

The IT Field Engineer will provide both on-site and remote technical support to clients across the UK. You will be responsible for installing, configuring, maintaining, and troubleshooting IT systems, hardware, software, networking equipment, and cloud-based services. The role will involve regular travel to customer sites, supporting reactive technical issues, planned project work, system rollouts, migrations, infrastructure upgrades, and new site setups. When not working in the field, you will support the service desk with escalated tickets and remote troubleshooting. This role would suit someone who is technically strong, customer-focused, organised, and comfortable working across both support and project environments.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide on-site technical support to clients across the UK
  • Install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot IT hardware, software, networks, and infrastructure
  • Support IT projects including migrations, deployments, upgrades, office moves, and new site setups
  • Work closely with senior engineers, project teams, and service desk colleagues
  • Diagnose and resolve hardware, software, server, cloud, and network issues
  • Provide 1st and 2nd line support when required
  • Assist with escalated service desk tickets when not attending customer sites
  • Support Microsoft 365, Azure, Active Directory, Windows Server, and endpoint environments
  • Troubleshoot networking technologies including TCP/IP, VLANs, firewalls, and wireless networks
  • Support firewall technologies such as Fortinet, Cisco, SonicWall, or WatchGuard
  • Support backup and recovery solutions, including Veeam and Azure Backup
  • Assist with virtualisation platforms including VMware, Hyper-V, AVD, and RDS
  • Maintain accurate documentation, ticket updates, and technical records
  • Manage workload effectively across travel, project work, and support responsibilities

Skills and experience required

  • Minimum of three years’ experience in a similar IT support, field engineer, or infrastructure support role
  • Previous MSP experience or experience in a customer-focused technical support environment
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft technologies including Microsoft 365, Azure, Windows, Active Directory, Group Policy, and Windows Server
  • Good all-round infrastructure knowledge across networking, servers, endpoints, cloud, and security
  • Experience troubleshooting PCs, servers, printers, scanners, switches, firewalls, and networked devices
  • Good understanding of cyber security technologies such as firewalls, web filtering, endpoint protection, and recovery solutions
  • Experience with backup solutions such as Veeam
  • Experience with VMware and/or Hyper-V
  • Full clean UK driving licence
  • Willingness to travel to customer sites across the UK

Desirable experience

  • Microsoft certifications in Azure, Microsoft 365, or related technologies
  • VMware VCP
  • Citrix experience
  • Veeam certifications or strong Veeam experience
  • Experience supporting Apple Mac environments
  • Experience working on cloud migrations, infrastructure upgrades, and larger IT projects
