MFK Recruitment is recruiting an experienced Depot Operations Manager to take responsibility for the safe, compliant and efficient operation of a busy waste and transport depot in Bishops Cleeve. You will lead the depot's transport and operational teams, ensuring services are completed safely, efficiently and on schedule. The position includes responsibility for employees, vehicles, budgets, customer relationships, regulatory compliance and overall depot performance.
Depot Operations Manager Responsibilities:- Manage the day-to-day operation of the depot.
- Lead Transport Office Coordinators, Drivers, Mates and other operational employees.
- Manage recruitment, onboarding, inductions, training, probation reviews and employee performance.
- Address attendance, conduct and employee relations matters in line with company procedures.
- Hold regular team meetings, briefings and toolbox talks.
- Ensure drivers' hours and mobile workers' records comply with current legislation.
- Maintain compliance with Goods Vehicle Operator Licensing requirements.
- Work with fleet, workshop and vehicle hire providers to ensure vehicles remain safe and roadworthy.
- Ensure drivers receive appropriate end-of-shift debriefs.
- Report and investigate accidents, injuries and operational incidents.
- Manage the depot budget, monitor costs and complete monthly reporting.
- Develop strong relationships with customers and contribute to contract tenders.
- Coordinate third-party haulage contractors and monitor their compliance.
- Ensure the depot is prepared for internal and regulatory inspections.
- Support the accurate and timely invoicing of services.
- Identify opportunities to improve safety, efficiency, customer service and operational performance.
- Promote a positive and inclusive working environment.
- Previous operational management experience within waste management, transport, logistics or a similarly regulated environment.
- Transport Manager CPC qualification.
- Strong people management and team leadership experience.
- Experience managing budgets, costs and operational performance.
- Good knowledge of drivers' hours, operator licensing and health and safety legislation.
- Strong communication, negotiation and customer relationship skills.
- Confident decision-making and problem-solving abilities.
- Good IT skills, including experience using operational systems and performance data.
- Full, clean UK driving licence.
- An HGV Class 2 licence would be advantageous but is not essential.
