An exciting opportunity has arisen for a HGV Block Lorry Driver to join a well-established company based in Leicester. Meynell Plant Hire, part of the Jelson Holdings Group, are a Leicestershire based business that have been established for 60+ years.
Job Summary: To safely, reliably, and efficiently transport construction materials (primarily blocks and related goods) to customer sites, ensuring on-time delivery, excellent customer interaction, and proper vehicle care, directly contributing to smooth site operations and repeat business.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate HGV vehicles in full compliance with the Highway Code, road traffic laws and company policies, maintaining a zero-incident safety record.
- Deliver safe and precise lifting operations by operating the crane and grab in line with all regulations and company standards, ensuring no damage to materials, property, or people.
- Transport building blocks between locations, following designated routes and schedules.
- Adhere to all tachograph and drivers’ hours regulations, ensuring accurate record-keeping at all times.
- Conduct and record daily walkaround checks, ensuring the vehicle is fully roadworthy before use and promptly report defects in accordance with company procedures.
- Safely load and unload goods using appropriate equipment and securing methods, ensuring proper distribution of weight and balance.
- Maintain a clean driving record and comply with company policies and procedures related to vehicle operation and safety.
- Report all accidents, incidents, or vehicle malfunctions promptly to management and follow proper procedures for documentation and resolution.
- Interact with customers, suppliers and other stakeholders in a professional and courteous manner, always representing the company positively.
- Ensure accurate and timely delivery of goods, verifying quantities against delivery documents and obtaining signatures as required.
- Communicate effectively with dispatchers, logistics coordinators delivery and resolve any issues or delays.
- Undertake additional duties appropriate to the role, skills, and level of competence as reasonably requested.
- Demonstrate a clear understanding of Health & Safety requirements including emergency procedures and hazard reporting.
- Ensure full compliance with all company policies and procedures.
Relevant Qualifications or Experience Required:
- Valid HGV Class C or CE driving licence.
- CPC qualification and valid Driver Card.
- HIAB brick / block grab qualification.
- Previous experience as an HGV Hiab driver.
- Good understanding of road safety regulations, vehicle maintenance and safe driving practices.
- Excellent navigational skills and the ability to read and interpret maps, GPS and delivery instructions.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact professionally with customers and colleagues.
Pay: £16.83 per hour
