Our client provides a complete range of roofing services across the South-East of England, specialising in new build and refurbishment projects and working with some of the industry's largest developers and main contractors. Due to continued expansion and sustained success, they are seeking an experienced Operations Manager to oversee flat roofing projects ranging in size.
Key responsibilities
- Organise and manage both directly employed labour and subcontractors to ensure adequate project resourcing
- Review and maintain project programmes, ensuring on-time delivery
- Work closely with the commercial team to monitor budgets, targets, turnover, and valuations
- Support and manage site managers, supervisors, and operatives across multiple projects
- Approve staff holidays and expenses while ensuring adequate site cover
- Plan and programme works in line with contract durations; liaise with clients to provide updates and resolve issues
- Attend client meetings and undertake regular site inspections to monitor safety, progress, and financial performance
- Oversee material orders to ensure compliance with budgets, drawings, and programme requirements
- Verify that works are carried out to approved drawings, specifications, and quality standards
- Maintain strong working relationships with operatives, subcontractors, and main contractors
- Ensure plant, craneage, and other resources are planned and aligned with programme and cost plans
- Produce lookahead programmes and ensure site teams have the resources to achieve targets
- Report project progress to the Operations Director daily/weekly/monthly, including MOS and blockers
- Review drawings and contracts to ensure the latest information is used
- Oversee QA processes, ensuring ITPs are completed and documents uploaded as required
- Monitor material usage and plan deliveries efficiently
- Deliver projects safely, on time, and within budget
Required skills, experience and attributes
- Experience of managing a multi-disciplined team in a fast-paced environment within roofing and waterproofing sector (essential)
- Well-developed commercial acumen and current knowledge of HR, Finance, Health & Safety
- Excellent communication skills at all levels both within the business and externally
- Have a strong focus on service delivery, to agreed timescales and budgets
- Have the ability to operate at a strategic and tactical level and contribute as part of the senior leadership team
- Ownership of a management CSCS card is essential, as well as being SMSTS or SSSTS qualified
- Strong IT skills, including Word and Excel
