At METTLER TOLEDO, we believe great engineers want their work to mean something. If you’re looking for a role where your skills contribute to positive outcomes—and where you can build a career aligned with your values—we’d love to hear from you. We are looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to create innovative designs that improve quality, reduce costs, and speed up production. You'll manage key processes like keeping accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs) and ensuring smooth handover from design to production. Working closely with the wider team, you'll help deliver projects on time, within budget, and to high-quality standards. This post is open on a fixed-term basis, initially scheduled for 6 months.
What You’ll Do
- Design conveyor and non-conveyor systems to meet customer requirements, focusing on accurate Bill of Materials (BOM) creation through to production release.
- Work closely with suppliers to find the best design solutions while ensuring BOM accuracy and minimising lead times.
- Perform mechanical design checks and BOM audits for team members to maintain quality and compliance.
- Support Production by resolving issues during system assembly, improving 'Right First Time' performance.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimise planning and lead times in line with business goals.
- Create and update engineering drawings using CAD software (Autodesk Inventor), ensuring consistency with BOM data.
- Manage Engineering Changes promptly, ensuring BOM revisions are documented and controlled.
- Monitor project costs versus estimates, focusing on BOM impact on cost and procurement.
- Coordinate with other departments to solve design, BOM, and process-related issues efficiently.
- Lead or contribute to continuous improvement initiatives targeting BOM process standardisation.
What You Need
- Degree or HND/HNC in Mechanical Engineering or similar.
- Minimum 3 years' experience in design engineering within a low or medium volume production environment, ideally with exposure to process-heavy operations involving BOM creation and maintenance.
- Skilled in Autodesk Inventor or similar 3D CAD software package.
- Knowledge of CAD data management systems – ideally Teamcenter.
- Ability to time manage own projects effectively and self-direct where necessary.
- Ability to adapt quickly to new processes and challenging situations, with strong attention to detail in process execution.
Our Offer To You
- Early finish on Fridays.
- Enhanced maternity and paternity leave.
- Holiday accrual scheme (earn up to 8 extra days holiday per year).
- 4x salary life assurance.
- 24/7 access to free and confidential Employee Assistance Programme to support mental health and wellbeing.
- Company social events.
- Opportunities for training and development.
