We are seeking a motivated and skilled Cost and Value Engineer to join METTLER TOLEDO Safeline, our Metal Detection Strategic Business Unit based in Manchester. In this role, you will lead cost analysis and improvement projects to enhance product profitability. You will analyse financial and production data, monitor product costs, identify cost variances, and drive cost-saving initiatives across teams. You will also collaborate on new product cost estimations and lead continuous improvement in cost engineering processes. This role is perfect for someone who enjoys detailed analysis, teamwork, and leading improvements to maximise profitability.
What You’ll Do:
- Maintain accurate and consistent cost and margin reporting.
- Create unified reporting for Finance, Procurement, Engineering, and Operations to base decisions on consistent data.
- Drive real-time variance analysis and enable preventive actions to reduce risks.
- Highlight and escalate cost variances, risks, and margin erosion early with clear evidence.
- Support cross-functional alignment on validated cost insights.
- Analyse Bills of Materials, routings, and labour flows to identify cost drivers and improvement opportunities.
- Provide Procurement with cost benchmarks and analysis to aid negotiations.
- Evaluate alternatives in design, process, or materials for efficiency and savings.
- Support New Product Introduction with cost-to-target analysis and risk highlighting.
- Track improvement projects and measure their sustained cost impact.
- Embed cost awareness and accountability across all functions.
- Support implementation of standardised cost control processes and dashboards.
- Provide analysis for management reviews to highlight risks, opportunities, and actions.
What You Need to Succeed:
- Proven experience as a Cost Engineer, Cost Analyst, Cost Specialist or similar role.
- Experience in data, operational and financial analysis.
- Experience within a manufacturing, engineering, or technical organisation.
- Experience working within a Standard Cost environment and showing an understanding of Manufacturing Variance.
- Strong analytical skills.
- Extensive knowledge and experience of SAP.
- Excellent working knowledge and skill within MS Excel application.
- Ideally qualified to degree level.
