About the Role The Technical Requirements Engineer will be an integral part of the Quality function and will play a critical role in ensuring the correct processing and release of customer orders into the manufacturing environment at Mettis. This is a technically demanding role requiring a deep understanding of aerospace specifications, including those relating to metal forming, heat treatment, and other NADCAP-designated special processes used throughout the Mettis manufacturing operation.
You will review technical aspects of customer contracts, drawings, and documentation, integrating customer requirements with Mettis standard processes to produce accurate, compliant, and cost-effective methods of manufacture. You will also be responsible for raising and maintaining manufacturing routes, Bills of Materials, and stock descriptions using the EFACS business management system, ensuring alignment with internal and customer-driven change processes.
As a condition of employment successful candidates are required to satisfy ITAR (International Traffic In Arms Regulations) compliance and must fulfil the following before commencing this role:
- Currently hold the legal Right to Work in the UK
- Fulfil a DBS clearance
- Provide a consistent 5-year UK domicile
- Pass Drugs & Alcohol screening at the start of their Mettis employment
Responsibilities Core Responsibilities:
- Perform technical contract reviews on received orders to confirm compliance with all customer contractual and specification requirements
- Review drawings, specifications, and customer documentation to extract all necessary technical requirements
- Generate complete methods of manufacture for new projects in line with customer specifications, Mettis processes, and internal cost standards
- Modify existing methods of manufacture to support changes to materials, processes, or customer requirements
- Create and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs) and accurate stock extended descriptions aligned with customer technical standards
- Raise and maintain manufacturing routes in EFACS in line with quoted methods and customer specifications
- Update manufacturing methods in EFACS in response to customer change notifications or internal Engineering Change Requests (ECRs)
- Support New Product Introduction (NPI) activities and cross-functional project teams
- Review and support customer-specific approval documentation.
- Raise customer-specific change request documents for new or existing product
- Confirm specification issue control between Mettis documentation and customer documents
- Integrate in-house process improvements and engineering developments into updated methods
- Revise system records to reflect changes to material, operations, routing, or subcontract requirements
- Communicate effectively with internal teams, customers, and key stakeholders
- Stamp or endorse documentation where required (e.g., FAIR, Engineering, Laboratory attention)
- Participate in cross-functional meetings to support order fulfilment and technical decision‑making
- Ensure the latest revisions of international and customer specifications are controlled, distributed for approval, and uploaded to the intranet
Safety Responsibilities:
- Comply with EHS and legislative standards
- Follow PPE and safety policy requirements
- Adhere to occupational health requirements
- Promote and uphold safe working practices
- Participate in risk assessments and support near‑miss identification and mitigation
Quality Responsibilities:
- Ensure customer technical and quality information is accurately incorporated into methods of manufacture
- Support quality compliance through method accuracy, specification control, and clear documentation
- Integrate Quality Instructions, SOPs, and care points to enhance process capability
- Support continuous improvement through effective collaboration with Quality and Engineering teams
Delivery Responsibilities:
- Ensure timely creation and update of manufacturing methods to support on-time order fulfilment
- Support internal teams with accurate, approved documentation and routing information
Cost Responsibilities:
- Ensure methods are efficient and aligned with internal cost standards
- Support reduction of scrap and rework by ensuring process accuracy and adherence
- Improve internal processes through technical insight and effective change management
People Responsibilities:
- Work collaboratively across Engineering, Operations, Quality, and Customer teams
- Maintain high standards of communication at all levels
- Comply with all Mettis HR policies and procedures
Business Responsibilities:
- Act as an ambassador for Mettis internally and externally
- Role model the company’s Vision, Mission, and Values
Qualifications Essential:
- Engineering degree or equivalent relevant technical experience
- Strong understanding of aerospace specifications, including metal forming, heat treatment, and special processes
- Familiarity with customer-driven approval methodologies (FPA, FMMDS, CNF, FCF, etc.)
- Experience in generating or maintaining manufacturing methods or routing documents
- Competent in interpreting engineering drawings and customer specifications.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office tools
Desirable:
- Experience within aerospace or a high-compliance manufacturing environment
- Knowledge of NADCAP processes
- Experience using EFACS or similar ERP/MRP systems
- Understanding of forging and hot metal forming processes
