Are you ready to shape the future of structural engineering on a global scale? We're seeking a

Chief Structural Engineer with deep expertise in Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and proven technical leadership to join our

Global Engineering team .

In this role, you will set the strategic direction for structural engineering across our mining and mineral processing equipment portfolio, with a strong focus on Bulk Material Handling (BMH) heavy structural equipment

As the highest technical authority in structural engineering within the GBP business, you will combine strategic vision with hands-on expertise, ensuring our solutions deliver uncompromising quality, safety, reliability, and performance worldwide.

You will be the go-to expert for the structural integrity of some of the largest and most complex machines Metso designs and delivers to the global mining and ports industry.

Global Engineering structure , you will provide senior structural engineering expertise to support both

Strategy: Define the global vision, standards, and best practices for structural engineering and FEA across GBP product lines, with strong focus on BMH heavy equipment.

  • Lead Structural Analysis of BMH Flagship

Equipment: Own the most complex FEA modeling and structural sign-off for Car Dumpers (Rotary, Side-Discharge, Tandem) and Stockyard Machines (Stackers, Reclaimers, Bucket Wheel Reclaimers, Shiploaders, Train Loading Systems), addressing fatigue, dynamic, seismic, and wind loading challenges typical of large welded structures.

  • Support Product & Project

Engineering: Provide expert structural analysis and technical guidance to Product Engineering teams (standardization, R&D, upgrades, retrofits) and Project Engineering teams (customer projects, tender support, engineering execution, and field services), ensuring alignment between standard products and project-specific customizations.

  • Establish Standards & Governance: Maintain and evolve engineering guidelines and calculation methodologies aligned with FEM 2.131/2.132, ISO 5049, AS 4324, DIN 22261, AISC, and Eurocode, as well as customer specifications from top-tier mining and port clients.
  • Drive Innovation & R&D: Lead structural innovation initiatives, advanced simulation methods (FEA, DEM coupling, fatigue prediction, digital twins), and IP development for next-generation BMH equipment.

Leadership: Partner with Product Management, Manufacturing, and Field Services; represent Metso as the senior technical authority before customers, EPCMs, and third-party FEA reviewers.

Who You Are

  • Degree in Mechanical, Civil or Structural Engineering. A Master's degree or Ph D in Structural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field is strongly preferred.
  • Expert-level proficiency in FEA tools (Ansys Mechanical / Workbench / APDL) and structural design software (STAAD, or equivalent).
  • Strong working knowledge of 3D/2D design platforms (Inventor, Solid Works, Auto CAD) and advanced engineering calculation tools.
  • Deep knowledge of BMH-specific design codes and standards, including FEM 2.131/2.132, ISO 5049, AS 4324, DIN 22261, AISC, Eurocode 3, AWS D1.1, and customer-specific technical specifications.
  • Solid experience with fatigue analysis (per BS 7608, Eurocode 3 Part 1-9, or equivalent), dynamic analysis, modal analysis, seismic and wind load analysis applied to large heavy structures.
  • 15+ years of progressive experience in structural design and analysis of heavy industrial equipment, with substantial hands-on experience in Bulk Material Handling equipment - particularly Car Dumpers.
  • Demonstrated track record leading global engineering teams, defining technical standards, and delivering complex BMH projects from concept to commissioning for top-tier mining and port customers.
  • Experience interacting with third-party FEA reviewers and independent verification engineers during major capital projects is highly valued.
  • Exceptional analytical capability for structural, load-bearing, fatigue, dynamic, and stability calculations of large heavy structures.
  • In-depth practical knowledge of welding (heavy plate and structural), casting, NDT methods, bolting techniques, and fabrication of large welded structures typical of BMH equipment.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing, transportation, site assembly, and erection challenges of oversized structural components.
  • Fluent in interpreting and producing engineering drawings in both Metric and Imperial systems.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, work autonomously, and make sound technical decisions under pressure.
  • Outstanding leadership and influencing skills, with the ability to align stakeholders across cultures, geographies, and functions.
  • Strong executive communication skills — comfortable presenting technical strategies, FEA results, and engineering recommendations to senior leadership, customers, and external reviewers.
