Metsä Board is searching for a Manager, Technical Services to strengthen our Technical Services team within Commercial Operations within the UK and Ireland. In this pivotal role, you will engage directly with customers to understand their requirements and propose solutions aligned with Metsä Board’s strategic objectives. You will work collaboratively within an account management team, alongside sales and production site colleagues. You will report to the Director, Technical Services Europe. As Metsä Board does not operate an office in the UK, this is a field-based position, with the expectation to work from home.
Key Responsibilities
- Operational responsibility for technical services to defined customer accounts
- Promotion of Metsä Board 360 services
- Management of trials, product tests, and qualification processes to maximise successful outcomes
- Collaboration with customers, colleagues, and co-suppliers on technical matters – including environmental and sustainability queries, product suitability, manufacturing issues, and specialist training
- Facilitating the flow of information between the market/customers and the Metsä Board organisation, ensuring customers are kept informed of our products and services’ benefits
What are we expecting of you?
You should thrive in an account team environment yet demonstrate decisiveness when acting independently. A sound understanding of the conversion of paperboard to finished cartons is essential, with experience or specialism in one or more of the following technologies:
- Board Manufacturing
- Printing: Lithographic offset, flexography, or digital
- Finishing: Die cutting, creasing, folding, gluing
- Corrugated production
- Adhesive/glue or ink technologies and manufacturing
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills are vital. You should possess a logical approach to problem-solving, a natural curiosity to delve into technical details, and the ability to conclude effectively. Computer literacy in Microsoft Office is required, and familiarity with SAP and AI applications is advantageous. We expect you to hold a degree or similar vocational qualification in paperboard, print, or related trades, or an equivalent background in another manufacturing field with experience in technical sales or services in an international business context. To succeed, you’ll need to build and maintain strong connections between the market, sales, and production units, and rapidly communicate significant information to your colleagues. Proactivity, results orientation, and the ability to implement plans into action are key. Fluency in written and spoken English is essential; other language skills and cultural understanding are advantageous.
