We are looking for a Business Development Manager for our retail customer base.
What’s your role at Metsä
The role reports to Head of National Accounts. The successful candidate will be responsible for winning new business and new product development within the Retail, Merchant and Industrial sectors of Metsä Wood UK’s Upgrading Commercial function. The individual will need to contribute to both the overall sales strategy and culture whilst also leading the development and execution of the channel sales performance.
Main Responsibilities
- Identify, hunt, win and execute new business opportunities within Retail, Merchant and Industrial sectors to enable growth of Metsä Wood’s sales volume, sales revenue and sales margins.
- Build relationships with new business opportunities until they are established and can be passed over to relevant Account Managers.
- Negotiation of all commercial terms.
- Generating new business P&Ls with price models, rebate structures and marketing support.
- New Product and Category Development. Identify and launch new products within our existing customer categories or to enable growth into new customer categories.
- Work with other members of the Upgrading Commercial Team as well as Procurement, Supply Chain, Operations and Finance to bring new products to market.
- Build robust business cases and conduct lifecycle analysis of new products.
- Adherence to Sustainability and Compliance.
- Customer Master data Creation / Metsä Wood & Customer Master Data Maintenance.
- Demand Planning.
- Leading the collaborative forecasting process with customer and internal S&OP.
- Establishes a wide internal and external network to enable, accelerate and embed best practice and support for Metsä’s growth ambitions and strategies.
- Drive up Metsä channel intel and customer agenda which builds strong and sustainable relationships with key trade partners that in turn accelerate customer engagement and grows the number of long term sustainable relationships.

Requirements
- Proven track record of growing sales and profitability in the UK market.
- Experience working directly with Retail and/or Merchant customers in the UK Market.
- Customer orientated and creative: willing to be hands on with the trade but still committed to building and leading from behind with results coming in from the capability of the wider team and the active partnership with the customers.
- Effective and rounded commercial negotiation skills which create sustainable end to end and conditional agreements.
- Culturally sensitive and adaptable.
