The Directorate of Legal Services are the largest in-house police legal team in the country providing a range of legal advice and support to the whole of the Met and National Police Chief Council (NPCC). We undertake a vast range of work from civil litigation and commercial to operational policing and family disclosure advice.
The Business Services Team is made up of around 26 people who collectively have responsibility for providing business support to the rest of the Directorate of Legal Services delivering a range of services including; finance, staffing, professional standards, business continuity, administration and business support. It is the operational backbone of this large, and growing, in-house legal team.
The post-holder will be a member of the MetLaw and Allocations teams of around 12 people who allocate work to DLS Case holders and external firms, manage all aspects of the National Legal Services Framework (NLSF) contracts, Emergency Boarding Up contract, dealing with telephone calls and emails from case-holders, clients and external parties, process and deal with invoices for NLSF firms, Counsel and DLS case holders.
Whilst the team are based in Holborn the post benefits from hybrid working in line with the Met Hybrid Working Policy. DLS falls within the category of support roles (to work from the office at least three days a week with flexibility for the rest of the time).
This is an administrative role with responsibility for:

To be a point of contact for inquiries from MPS Staff, National Legal Services Framework (NLSF) firms, Counsel Chambers and Directorate of Legal Services (DLS) Case holders and MPS Clients.

To verify, download and process invoices for NLSF firms and Counsel Chambers and liaise with DLS Lawyers and MPS Clients to authorise payment and progress any resulting queries.

To check and process Financial cap request forms for External Contractors and deal with any resulting queries.

Process BACS remittance payments and send to the payees.

Verify and process the NLSF Firms daily payment requests

Initial point of contact for queries relating to Emergency Boarding Up, liaising with contractors and investigating circumstances where liability is in question and to verify call out information prior to payment.

Monitor all team outlook mailboxes, dealing with any enquiries that are received via email

Provide assistance and support to the Team and the Band Ds.

Other Ad Hoc tasks, projects within MetLaw and Allocations’ teams
