The standard working pattern will be 36 hours a week, Monday to Friday. The purpose of this role is to promote the work of frontline police officers, which may require early or late starts to fall alongside operational activity. Any requirement for off‑hours work will be detailed in advance and will carry overtime and/or unsociable hours payments.

Working Hours & Compensation

36 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with flexibility for early or late shifts as needed. Overtime and unsociable hours are paid in accordance with policy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Promote the work of frontline police officers through clear and engaging communication.
  • Proofread and copy‑write for a range of media, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and consistency.
  • Create, deliver, and evaluate communication campaigns, using digital and online tools.
  • Develop and deploy multi‑faced media strategies that shape public perception of the Met’s work.
  • Work with the Frontline Communication Network and the award‑winning Communication & Engagement team for support and guidance.
  • Translate technical briefings into accessible messages tailored to target audiences.
  • Utilise the brand new Met Engage platform to maximise communication impact.
  • Support communication around critical incidents, campaign strategy, and local stakeholder engagement.
  • Adapt messaging in response to news cycles, social or political developments, and audience insight.
  • Work flexibly in a fast‑paced environment, managing multiple priorities and tight deadlines.

Qualifications

  • Minimum two years of communications experience, with strong proofreading and copy‑writing skills.
  • Excellent understanding of digital and online communication tools, including social media platforms.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of campaign management and delivery cycles, including audience insight, research and evaluation.
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills; ability to translate technical briefings into clear messaging.
  • Strong spelling, punctuation and grammar; keen attention to detail.
  • Ability to communicate professionally with all stakeholder levels, both internally and externally.
  • Must hold GCSE or equivalent in Maths and English.
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to adjust to changing requirements and competing demands.
