In Operational Support Services we provide a range of services to the Met, including providing Fleet, Vehicle Recovery, Catering, Travel, Cultural Services, Uniform, ID Passes, Exhibit Management, Records Management and Local support to officers. Whilst these services are quite different in what they deliver, the desired outcomes of delighting our customers, improving performance, delivering innovative services that are value for money and supporting and developing our people are the same.
This is an exciting time to be working as a Distribution Driver for the Metropolitan Police Service. In addition to large-scale transformation, there’s the unique and ever-evolving challenge of policing London. This means that as a driver, there are more opportunities for you to get involved with making London the safest global city in a time of unprecedented change within the UK’s largest Police Service.
Central Warehouse is based at Belvedere and a deeper storage solution in Woolwich area. This role will be based within the OSS central warehouse team and will manage movement of exhibits, consumables high risk items in line with MPS policy and other items for the wider MPS family. Staff will be required to be flexible., * A tracked collection and delivery service for exhibits to and from the labs.

A tracked collection and delivery service between central criminal exhibits stores and boroughs.

A tracked collection and delivery service of documentation for the CPS for prosecution decisions.

Distribution of equipment.

Distribution of consumables and store items.

Distribution of records between BCUs and central store.

Responsibility of the security of MPS vehicle and load and adhere to MPS policy around building security and personal responsibility.

Use relevant technology for the role.

Good communication skills, face to face, via telephone and via email.

Be able to use a mobile device and apps.

Be physically capable of managing items up 20kg into weight.

Be able to work unsupervised and as part of a team.

Be flexible and committed to ensure ad hoc and urgent operational work is completed promptly even if this entails working beyond rostered hours.

Have extensive experience in multi-drop delivery.

Have a general geographical knowledge of London and the Home Counties and be able to use the latest technology to aid in this.

Have a sound knowledge of Traffic Legislation and the Highway Code, plus the ability to learn the Police Driver and Vehicle Regulations.

Have a basic knowledge of the Working Time Directive and Drivers hours.
Essential Criteria

Minimum of B Driver’s license with a wiliness to obtain class C.

Drivers Licence with no more than 6 points
Desirable Criteria

Forklift licence (VNA and Counter Balance)

Have knowledge of Criminal exhibits transporting and Tracking.
