Group Metropolitan was founded in 1985 as an electrical contractor carrying out small moves and changes projects for a select few clients. Over the past 35 years, we have grown into a turnkey Principal Contractor offering in-house tradespeople, with a projected turnover of £90m. About the role

The Project Manager is to deliver multiple ongoing projects, day-to-day business as usual and reactive works to Metropolitan standards, the required programme and to the maximum commercial performance. The role also involves working closely with the client representatives, estimating department, engineers and other site teams to ensure that projects are completed in a safe manner, whilst ensuring customer requirements and expectations are always maintained or exceeded.

The role will require close collaboration with numerous stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle, including but not limited to the following: designers both internal and external, architects, GML estimating department, key account leads, project commercial teams both in house and client side, sub-contractors, manufacturers and specialist suppliers, client agents, commissioning teams and high-profile customers. The candidate will be a key contributor from conception, through the design stages, managing the delivery and ensuring that each project is successfully handed over and closed out in a professional manner to the highest of standards.

Hours: 07:00 – 16:00 (1 hour for lunch)

Location: Site Based and Canary Wharf

Generally, the above hours will be flexible in line with the needs of the business. We operate a fair working policy but if any extended overtime is worked by agreement of your line manager, then overtime payment will be applicable.

Requirements

  • Demonstrable experience with a minimum 3 years’ experience in a Main Contractor role.
  • Reside within a 50 mile / 1 hour commute of London.
  • Full Driving Licence.
  • Valid CSCS Card.
  • IOSH Managing Safely or SMSTS Qualification / Equal Approved.
  • Two references required.

Desirable Attributes

  • Enhanced Management Training – ILM or Similar.
  • Technical Author experience.
  • Degree educated.
  • First Aid Trained.
  • DBS Check – Basic or Enhanced (will be completed upon appointment if not current).

Responsibilities

  • Surveying, Key Planning and Defining Scope of works.
  • Producing accurate budget forecasts and/or firm quotations, monitoring and controlling project costs, cost reporting, and producing monthly reports to Contracts Manager on project performance, efficient team building and labour organisation.
  • Delivering projects from design phase to completion including all handover documentation, budget resources and forward planning.
  • Reviewing work packages and ensuring scope of work is clearly defined and understood.
  • Attending weekly client meetings and ensuring the production of accurate records of any discussions and actions.
  • Building and maintaining good relationships with the customers, framework suppliers and other site teams.
  • Developing and maintaining construction programmes with staff and contractors.
  • Arranging appropriately trained staff for work tasks and overseeing and monitoring the works during normal hours and as required outside normal hours.
  • Co-ordinating and managing site investigations during the ongoing construction process and developing engineering solutions in order to build cost-effective construction solutions that fulfil the client’s requirements.
  • Ensuring production and implementation of Project Plans, risk assessments, method statements, site waste management plans, and procurement of plant and materials are in line with company procedures.
  • Ensuring agreed customer KPIs and SLAs are met.
  • Ensuring detailed site diaries/records are completed.
  • Leading by example and setting the highest possible standards of leadership in promotion of HS&E procedures and best practices, ensuring compliance with Company procedures and legal obligations.
  • Ensuring all HSE-related documents are kept up to date.
  • Producing monthly reports for HSE team.
  • Allocating HSE responsibilities and duties for site personnel, checking understanding and arranging training as necessary.
  • Ensuring that all subcontractors take appropriate steps to follow procedures and processes.
  • Ensuring that site waste management plans and site-specific environmental risk assessments are produced and maintained.
  • Liaising with third parties to ensure compliance with required regulatory standards.
  • Providing briefings to the team and ensuring necessary training is available.
  • Ensuring that the QA File is produced and maintained.
  • Closing out any technical queries.
  • Ensuring as built drawings and O&M manuals are submitted to client on completion of each project.
