Job Description
Group Metropolitan was founded in 1985 as an electrical contractor carrying out small moves and changes projects for a select few clients.
Over the past 35 years, we have grown into a turnkey Principal Contractor offering in-house tradespeople, with a projected turnover of £80M.
This has been achieved by working collaboratively with our clients to understand their needs and become an extension of their business,’ expanding our service offerings and geography to meet the expectations required.

About The Role
We are looking for an organised, proactive and people-focused HR Advisor.
This is a varied, hands-on role where no two days are the same.
You’ll be involved in the full employee lifecycle from recruitment and onboarding through to employees relations, performance management, learning and development, compliance and administration.
The successful candidate will be confident building relationships with managers and employees, enjoy solving problems and be passionate about creating a positive employee experience while ensuring HR processes remain compliant and efficient.

Requirements
- Previous experience in a HR Generalist, HR Advisor or similar HR role.
- Good working knowledge of UK employment law and HR best practice.
- Experience supporting the full employee lifecycle.
- High level of discretion and ability to handle confidential information.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Outlook).
- Experience using HR systems (e. g. Hi Bob or similar).
Desirable
- CIPD Level 3 or Level 5 qualified (or working towards).
- Experience within the construction, engineering or facilities management sector.
- Experience supporting apprenticeship programmes.
Responsibilities
- Produce offer letters and employment contracts.
- Manage pre‑employment screening including Right to Work, references, DBS Checks.
- Lead the onboarding process ensuring new starters have an excellent experience.
- Present employee inductions for new starters.
- Support the annual apprentice recruitment programme including arranging interviews, preparing documentation and coordinating work trials where required.
- Provide first‑line HR advice to managers and employees.
- Support absence management, disciplinary, grievance and capability processes.
- Support and manage the probation review process.
- Assist with annual performance review cycles.
- Maintain accurate employee records within Hi Bob.
- Produce contracts, variation letters and employment documentation.
- Process changes including promotions, salary amendments and contractual updates.
- Ensure employee files remain compliant with employment legislation and company standards
- Support implementation of HR initiatives and continuous improvement projects
