Salary: The starting salary is £55,662, which includes allowances totalling £3,009. The salary is broken down as £52,653 basic salary, which will increase annually until you reach the top of the scale £57,417. Plus, a location allowance of £2,009 and a non-pensionable allowance of £1,000.

As a Tactical Engineer, you’ll ensure that Special Operations and Counter Terrorism colleagues are equipped to perform at their best from a tech point of view. You’ll be part of the Business Development, Strategy and Demand team, providing operational colleagues around London with tactical IT solutions. It’s fast-paced, hands-on work, as officers need IT as soon as possible. You’ll work by liaising with operational users to understand their needs.

Key Tasks:

• Attend SO sites across the MPS estate.
• Manage workloads in an ITSM system.
• Review requests for IT support and liaise with users where appropriate.
• Provide users with assistance on Wintel applications such as Windows 11, Office and Edge.
• Provide users with advice and guidance around corporate IT systems (Desktop/Laptops, desk telephony, printers etc.).
• Assist with site surveys for placing desktop equipment at new sites.
• Provide advice and guidance around standalone systems (including laptops/desktops).
• Set up and configure standalone devices (where appropriate).
• Plan and assist with IT in relation to office moves/setting up new offices.
• Arrange disposal of unwanted equipment as part of office moves (where appropriate).
• Provide advice and guidance around usage of meeting room VTC equipment.
• Assist with setting up new VTC for meeting rooms (where appropriate).
• Liaise with colleagues in compliance & assurance to ensure that all IT installs follow correct processes (where appropriate).
• Give advice and guidance around correct/secure usage of IT (where appropriate).

Desirable for the Role:

• Experience at successfully delivering small IT installation projects.
• Knowledge of the security accreditation processes at a national level at all GSC levels.
• Experience writing user guides for IT equipment, software and processes.

Confidentiality Agreement: Applicants should also be aware of the need to sign a confidentiality agreement on taking up the post.

Vetting: This post requires access to the most sensitive intelligence material on a daily basis. Applicants must hold or be prepared to undergo National Security Vetting (NSV) Developed Vetting (DV) level before taking up the post. This post requires British nationality (some dual nationals may be ineligible) and Developed Vetting (DV) clearance.

Excellent knowledge of common Microsoft apps (O365, Windows, Edge etc.). Experience in assisting users with common IT faults. Excellent communication skills both written and verbal. Ability to work independently and also as part of a team. Must exhibit the ability to prioritise both their own and the team’s workload. Must exhibit ability to work under pressure and deal with competing demands.
