Staff Officer to Director of Resources - Band C - SLT - Counter Terrorism Policing HQ

Salary: The starting salary is £48,995, which includes allowances totalling £3,009. The salary is broken down as £45,986 basic salary, which will increase annually until you reach the top of the scale £54,863. Plus, a location allowance of £2,009 and a non-pensionable allowance of £1,000.

Job Summary: The Director of Resources (DoR) has responsibility for a wide range of national and local counter terrorism (CT) functions that spans the National CT Policing (CTP) Network, the MPS and Specialist Operations (SO). DoR has direct management of several national CT functions (CTPHQ Pillars) including Strategic Finance, Human Resources, Compliance and Assurance, Commercial and Local Support Services. DoR has responsibility for over 200 personnel in CT Policing Headquarters and reports to the Director General for CTP and ACSO. They have significant management responsibilities for the delivery of change and the national CTP budget (the CT grant), engaging with senior leaders and stakeholders across a wide range of policing, government and partner intelligence agencies and external departments.

As Staff Officer to DoR, you will ensure efficient and effective leadership of the Directorate and will be a key organiser in the development and co-ordination of cross-cutting functions and activities across all pillars. The Staff Officer proactively coordinates and oversees all functions of the DoR’s private office, including co-ordinating projects, programmes and initiatives under DoR's portfolio; performing secretariat functions for national boards and local forums; maintenance and production of governance documentation and reports; day to day management of DoR correspondence, inbox and problem solving queries; and liaison with key stakeholders and partners in CTP, wider Policing, government and other organisations. The Staff Officer manages a Personal Assistant (PA) who leads on diary management and other administrative functions and together are the private office to the DoR.

Key Tasks: Staff Officer responsibilities and objectives:

  • Private Office Management:
  • Manage day to day enquiries, including DoR inbox management and responses, alleviating time consuming and/or non-priority activities away from DoR by supporting on day-to-day issues.
  • Channel enquiries through relevant routes to provide efficient responses with particular focus on working closely with the DoR’s Pillar Leads.
  • Plan and organise the DoR’s activities in line with priorities and deadlines, multi-tasking efficiently to oversee a large volume of requests and queries simultaneously.
  • Provide clear tasking and guidance to the PA to organise diary and perform administrative requirements, overseeing their work and ensuring a coordinated Private Office function.
  • Understand the business and DoR’s objectives and proactively seek ways to increase productivity and steer them towards their goals.
  • Arrange and manage internal and external meetings for the DoR alongside the PA, delivering the Secretariat function where appropriate.
  • Draft and coordinate papers and briefings for the DoR across a wide range of priorities, meetings and forums including communications to internal and external audiences as required across the DoR portfolio.
  • Work closely with DoR to understand their priorities, requirements and views to manage daily requests, represent at meetings and forums where required and speak with their authority on a range of issues.
  • As a line manager of a Band D PA, you will be responsible for working with them to define their objectives, manage their development and performance.
