The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker who can shape and build their approach to organisational change, and an inspirational leader who will deliver the structural changes they need.
You will need extensive experience as an HR Practitioner and a successful record of leading people-based change. It is vital that you understand current employment legislation, and can make informed, risk-based decisions about complex employment issues.
Knowledge and experience of the policing environment would be useful, but not essential. More important are your persuasive communication and leadership skills β which you will use with senior business leaders to shape their approach to people change. Supporting them through the change journey β providing expert guidance when needed but challenging where appropriate.
Key responsibilities:
On a day-to-day basis you will have four primary areas of responsibility:
- Shape local and business level change strategies, work with senior leaders to ensure all people-based change, restructures and re-organisations are optimised β managing business objectives, employment legislation and industrial relations.
- Be the MPS subject matter expert and professional head of service for people-based change. Providing authoritative guidance and insight β interpreting policy within a specific context, with risk-based insight on different courses of action, and minimum legal positions.
- Manage and deliver the end-to-end change process. Through a team of 10 HR change professionals, which you will lead, ensure change is appropriately planned, legal compliance is delivered, and risk is actively managed. Lead the career transition service β ensuring displacement, and if appropriate redundancy, is managed effectively and in line with the law.
- Continuous improvement across the HR function β ensuring HR operations are effective, efficient and focused on the needs of the frontline user.
Scope for impact
As a senior leader with HR and the Met, you will be responsible for delivering key aspects of their major transformation projects β setting the strategy for how they build new organisational units, transform existing units, and manage re-deployment efficiently and with empathy.
Your work will be highly visible to senior operational leaders, directors, and management board, and be a critical enabler to delivering their New Met for London plan.
Experience & Skills Required
- Credibility as a professional HR leader who can shape strategy and build strong working relationships across the Met and external partners
- Excellent knowledge of employment law, TUPE regulations, and redundancy and redeployment legislation. Demonstrating how these are managed to support both the business and impacted individuals
- Knowledge and experience of industrial relations policy and stakeholder management (e.g. trade unions, staff associations or Police Federation)
- Track record of delivering people-based change, re-structures, and re-organisations
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
