Senior Data Rights Lead
Salary: The starting salary is £59,839, which includes allowances totalling £2,928.
The salary is broken down as £56,911 basic salary, which will increase annually until you reach the top of the scale – £69,342. Plus, a location allowance of £1,928 and a non-pensionable allowance of £1,000.
Location / Hybrid Working:
Primarily the role is based in Sidcup or Hendon but there may be a need for you to attend offsite meetings as required by the business. We actively support hybrid working solutions.
Security Clearance:
Due to the secure nature of our work, successful candidates must pass all vetting and security requirements, including Counter Terrorism (CTC), before they can be appointed. For this role you will need to pass SC level clearance.

The Role:

As a Senior Data Rights Lead, you’ll play a crucial role in upholding these rights while supporting the Metropolitan Police Service (The Met) to operate effectively. This isn’t just about compliance – it’s about making a real difference in how The Met handles data in one of the most complex policing environments in the world.
Leading a team of experts, you’ll oversee one of three critical areas:
- Right of Access – Managing Subject Access Requests, ensuring individuals can access their data.
- Freedom of Information & Insurance Requests – Handling requests that help maintain public accountability.
- Continual Improvement & Appeals – Ensuring our processes are efficient, managing legal challenges, and defending the Met’s position when necessary.
Whichever area you lead, you’ll drive improvements, engage with senior decision-makers, and shape how The Met manages data rights. Your work will directly impact London’s communities by ensuring transparency, fairness, and trust in the police.

Essential skills:
- A detailed understanding of UK Data Rights legislation, including the Data Protection Act 2018 and Freedom of Information Act 2000.
- Strong leadership skills, with experience in managing teams and fostering a culture of high performance.
- The ability to build relationships with senior stakeholders, influencing and negotiating to ensure best practice.
- A track record of strategic decision-making, balancing compliance with operational effectiveness.
- Excellent communication skills, capable of representing the Met at a senior level and engaging with legal services where necessary.
Desirable Skills/Experience:
- Practitioner Certificate in Freedom of Information
- Practitioner Certificate in Data Protection
- Previous experience of working within a law enforcement environment
