Radio Services Manager

Location: London & Hybrid (60% / 3-days per week in office). You can choose a ‘home base’ Met location from: Bow, Bromley, Hendon, Lambeth, Sidcup or Southwark. We offer the flexibility to work in a Hybrid way, including Working from Home (WFH). Travel across the Met Estate, to attend meetings as required by the business, is expected.

The Radio Services Team are responsible for the delivery of Radio Communications to front line Police Officers. These services are delivered through several outsourced contracts which the Radio Service Manager is responsible for managing to ensure mission critical radio communications is delivered 24/7, 364/5 days a year. Radio Services are a focal point of contact for issues relating to the radio communications for all Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) operational command units overt, covert and Central Communications Command (MetCC).

Key Role Responsibilities

• Managing Outsourced Supplier – Review supplier performance against contract and agreed service levels. Review suppliers’ quotation and challenge if required. Chair/attend supplier meeting. Ensure services are ‘best value’ and benchmarked where possible.
• Operational Policing – Liaise with operational colleagues to determine best use of resources and provide advice to enable implementation of planned upgrades to radio services.
• Subject Matter Expert (SME) – Provide SME advice when required. This could be to support existing services or new projects.
• Commercial and Financial – Review and provide advice for commercial agreements and finance that support those agreements. Responsible for raising purchase orders and processing invoices on the corporate MPS system.
• Risks, Issues and Problems – Maintain accurate Risk and Issue logs and update as required.
• Police development and review.
• Any other Radio Services work as directed by the Head of Radio Services.
• Willing to participate in a 24/7 on-call rota (expected frequency is one week on call a month).

Additional Information

For this role the Vetting Clearance is Force Clearance Level, Recruitment Vetting (RV), and National Security Vetting (NSV) Level, Counter Terrorism Check (CTC).

Employment: Permanent, Full-Time (36-hours per week). Hybrid Working available in line with the Metropolitan Police Service hybrid working policy. You will be expected to work from a Met location for at least three days a week (60% of working time) to support our operational teams and collaborate effectively. For up to two days per week (no more than 40% of working time), you may be permitted to work from home, balancing flexibility with organisational need.

Evidence of a recent ICT services background and a sound knowledge of telecommunications services. A broad understanding of the IT Service Management Methodology (ITIL). The ability to set and meet work priorities to achieve outcomes within timeframes and budgets. Effective written, oral, presentation and interpersonal skills and the ability to deal with people at all levels. The ability to deal with confidential and sensitive material. The ability to manage a small team (Contractors/Suppliers) to make best use of resources. A broad knowledge of UK telecommunications standards and legislation.
